: Need Help Truck Is In Limp Mode
dieselp 12-03-2006, 09:00 PM this is my buddies truck a 2006 lbz. it is total stock and has about 10,000 miles on it fuel filter was changed about 2,000 miles ago along with the oil. he went out to start it let it warm up and drove about 7 miles before the truck's check engine light went on. it was about 15 degrees out today and he had power service in the fuel. and the truck would not go over 25 mph or 2000 rpm's he checked the codes and they were 106 and 101 both something about air and a 402 something about egr any help would be great thank's
crash55 12-03-2006, 10:40 PM If the engine block heater was plugged in and the truck has not had the update flash this could be the trouble. Do a search. If not it could be egr valve is stuck open. It would need to be replaced. Just my .02.
dieselp 12-03-2006, 10:49 PM no block heater thanks though
crash55 12-03-2006, 10:56 PM If you are running an after market air filter that uses oil ex. K&N the MAS sensors will not function properly if it gets oil on it. Is this truck running a egr blocker plate, finger stick, after market exhaust, kitty deleted, or a programmer?
GMC2500HD 12-03-2006, 11:10 PM Any further information you can provide about the truck, mods and things will help in diagnosis of the problem..
dieselp 12-04-2006, 10:37 AM the truck is completely stock no after market anything showroom stock and it has three codes 106 101 and 402.
Sounds like a warranty trip to dealership.
Anybody else have any suggestions??? Mine just did the same thing this morning. Truck is bone stock right now and only has about 5k on it. It was 15F outside, I let it run for a few minutes and she was normal for the first 3 miles and then_dead horse... Never seen this with any of the other Duramax's that I've had. Any suggestions would be great. I really would hate to have to go see the Stealer!!!
BlackMax Canada 12-05-2006, 08:06 AM At the top of each Engine Generation forum there is a thread in the "Sticky" zone (blue background) called DTC lookup tool. Its pretty handy to have around.
P0106 - MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor performance
P0101 - MAF (Mass air Flow) sensor
P0402 - EGR Flow Excessive
From what you guys are saying your trucks are near new and stock...bring them in to the dealer. Not much you can do for these codes.
You could do a quick check for chaffed wiring, check your air filter a few basics, but not much to go on right now.
Let us know what the remedy is....
BlackMax Canada 12-05-2006, 08:09 AM the truck is completely stock no after market anything
...maybe thats the problem....:D.
SnowBandit 12-05-2006, 08:40 AM I had the same issue last year. Its a bad MAF sensor. Or atleast that was mine. Sucked as I was towing when it would go into limp mode.
JimmyDel 12-05-2006, 10:09 AM There is a leak in the induction system. Most likely the duct connecting to the Air Box. It is easy to roll the bottom edge when reconnecting. He should look at all of the intake ducts including the resonator to find the air leak. Special attention to any ducts he may have removed during the fuel filter service.
Being that I only have a few miles on mine I have yet to do a fuel filter. My DIC last I knew said I was around 40% or so. I will probably change that when I get home to see if anything is different afterwards. I had just filled up the other day and I did not add anything this time as I usually add everyother tank...
True that maybe being stock is the problem... I plan to add some goodies in the near future and now think that my time frame has been pushed up and will order an Edge real soon...
Quick 6 Racing 12-05-2006, 11:36 AM Thats a lot of unrelated codes....if the Mass Air was reading incorect, it could be responsible for setting the other codes.
Most likely item....may need GM reprogramming or update....good thing for 5+ year emissions related warranty....it's on GM's tab this time
Duramax 6.6L 12-05-2006, 06:25 PM Sounds to me like the egr valve is stuck open. This has been a big problem for these trucks.
Could also be a bad maf sensor. Try unpluging the maf and see if the truck runs any better. The computer will substitute a value for the maf.
Let us know
SnowBandit 12-05-2006, 08:10 PM When they found mine it was through very strange codes that were not related at all. Finally figured it out when the thing was reporting -40F all the time to the motor.
Well I got home and fired it up and the CEL was out, so I took it down the road a little ways and the light came back on but it did not go into "limp mode". I guess I have no choice but to bring it in and have them take a peek. I will keep you posted as to what they find and first thing when I get back home I have a box of goodies all set and ready to go on :)...
Finally got into the Stealer the other day and now I am even more confused. I had codes 101,106, and 299. Of course they were of no help as they just did not understand and were trying to duplicate my problems and that is just not possible as the truck has been running just fine since then the day of the problem. I really hope that this in not going to keep reoccuring everytime that it is really cold out... Maybe I will never know as my Evo goes in tomorrow :)
