A freind of mine has one of the 1st Dmax's delivered to Central Alberta. It's his golfing / stag going truck - it only has 36,000 Km's or 22,500 miles on it. We recently took his on a fishing trip and I looked under the hood at a fuel stop to see the filter minder popped so I pulled the filter to have a look see and it didn't look too bad. Reset the minder, drove for a couple more hours, looked again and the minder was popped again. I seem to recall a lot of mods being done on the earlier air boxes. My '02 is fine. Is this a common issue?

When i bought my 01 used, a year and half ago, it did the same thing. I went to the bird screen K&N stock replacement filter, fixed. not a wonder why. new paper filter now and hasn't popped yet 5k miles. Try a new filter, if not, then the swiss cheese box mod etc.

Mine has never moved in 80,000 miles, 2 paper and K&N filters. Maybe it's stuck? Try a new filter element...

With only 30K on mine it has never moved. I am running an Amsoil & swiss cheesed airbox.

ours is an early '02 (we bought it in Oct of '01) and I have been told it is the same as the '01's ... currently has 71,000+ miles, nothing has been done to the air box, have run stock/K&N/Amsoil filters and the minder has never tripped

The early 01s had the air intake in the fender well and were found to be restristive. Mine would pulll the filter minder down with a new filter. There is a tsb to modify the airbox so that it pulls air from under the hood and corrects this problem.

The dealer will update the air box for free to correct the problem. At the same time there is also a software revision they should do. Just check with them.

Was there not a piece of tape (alumium) that was getting sucked in? Or partially obstructing airflow on the early airboxes?

I have 90K miles and a highly aerated box with 1/2 holes and the Amsoil filter. Never had mine pop up.

My 04 has the Alum on the fender. My 01 with a paper filter would have the meter go red with a filter that did not have the glue strip zig zagged across the bottom of the filter. The strong air flow coming in would spread the filter in one spot making most of the air go thru that area only and causing the filter to restrict earlier. Just what I've seen.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

16,500 on '01 (I know- I've heard all the grocery-getter and slow-diesel jokes from my friends. Truth is, it'll move a 12-pack from store to 96mph like nothing I've ever owned). Came with foil sticker on fenderwell. Removed foil, ran ~2500 with paper, switched to K&N (now reconsidering), now 16,500. Have never seen the thing move.
