do you have a security light? how was it installed??? did you install it or did someone else do it? You/they didn't use scotch locks did you? Almost sounds like the tach wire isn't hooked up or making complete connection.

Agree with above, or might be passlock bypass module not working. If someone else did the install, it's pretty easy to check the connection by the OBD2 port if you look under the dash to see if it's scotch lock connection or soldered. Purple wire should be tapped into, pull back electrical tape and see how it's connected.

I bought the truck used and it came with it.....are scotch locks those things that clamp down on 2 wires that you commonly see on trailers?

It definitley sounds like the passlock. I know when I disconnet my batteries I have to reprogram the Passlock by pass....

Did you lose your batteries?

yes those are scotch locks. quick and handy but not reliable, especially for extended periods of time and weather.

Does it fire and then shut off or just crank for a short period and not start? Do you have trouble starting it with the key after this happens?

It is most likely a resistor type passlock bypass that is giving trouble.

It fires and dies right after, it will start just fine with the key right after.....also havent lost my charge.

It's probably a passlock issue. You need to reset your passlock module or upgrade it to a data module.

just tried and it worked fine.....still a passlock problem? or would it be a loose connection?

btw:how do you reset the passlock?

It depends on the model of bypass you have. It's not really a DIY thing.

I still think it is passlock but I can't really be sure without seeing it myself.

so you think the passlock would make an intermitent problem

Most definately. I see it all the time with 'resistor' style bypasses and that is the reason that I only use data bypasses.

would you mind explaining the 2 different bypasses? Im not sure I understand... but Im assuming its how the aftermarket remote starter bypasses the passlock system?

'cheaper' resisitor bypasses simulate the presense of a key by sending the ECM a certain resistance that is the same value as what the key would send when the cylinder is rotated past the hall effect sensor.

The data bypasses simply communicate on the data line and tell the truck to start.

The problem with resistor bypasses is that the resistances change with temperature or with a bad connection or a faulty module etc.
