10-ton 07-22-2004, 09:55 PM Went to pick up some extra fuel filters for my Nictane and out of couriosity haqd them cross reference the Dmax oil filter and they came up with a match for 8 bucks. Just wondering if anyone has used these. Thanks,Brian
Mackin 07-22-2004, 10:03 PM For oil?
No way really, what number did you give them? I'm excitedly pessimistic.
What was the Cat Number ?
Mac
DMAX POWER007 07-22-2004, 10:05 PM Part number PLEASE!!!!!!
10-ton 07-22-2004, 10:12 PM Mac, I gave them the Baldwin # to cross reference with. The # for the cat is 238-3849. I hope it is true also as I woud be pleased with some one stop shopping.
Forced Induction 07-22-2004, 10:31 PM I'd love to have CAT filter on my rig. Especially since I have friends that work for CAT.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Keep us posted on what you find.

DMAX POWER007 07-22-2004, 10:46 PM Same here. Get one in hand and all will be good! I'l check with my CAT dealer tomorrow. Time for an oil change anyway.
problemchild 07-23-2004, 12:08 AM Ill take a 6 pack of those. Ive been running the mistersushi filters.
lttlfeller 07-23-2004, 10:15 AM Anyone know if CAT oil filters are as high of quality as their fuel filters? I'd like to see what the filtering efficiency is and to what micron size.
I recall someone had posted stats on common oil filter brands and Baldwin/ WIX/ AC Delco were at the top of the list. Wonder if the CAT oil filter is better yet?
My assumption is they are top quality. I wanta' try 'em.
GSXRTURBO1 07-23-2004, 10:36 AM I get the AC Delco PF2232 at Murrays Auto for something like $3. They usually only have 2-3 on the shelf, so I buy 2-3 whenever I go there.
If they ever have more than that I'll get extra ones, then I'll sell them to whoever wants them for what I paid.
Diesel Power 07-23-2004, 11:40 AM Talked to my CAT guy today. that part # is legit. it is not used for any CAT application. CAT makes it as a replacement for GM light-duty trucks..
cost was $7..
56Nomad 07-23-2004, 01:15 PM DP,
I went to the CAT dealer today to buy more fuel filters
and he ran the part # 238-3849
They have to order this direct from Baldwin..that is what
he says.
I wonder if they are painted yellow? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif Edited by: 56Nomad

DMAX POWER007 07-24-2004, 11:15 AM Anyone know for sure if it is just a Baldwin painted yellow? I haven't had the chance to talk to my Cat dealer. Kind of kills the excitement if it is.
DMAX POWER007 07-26-2004, 09:50 PM Any one have any info yet??http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
10-ton 07-26-2004, 10:08 PM I ordered four of them friday, should be in within a week. I will report if someone doesn't be me to it. Brian
DMAX POWER007 07-26-2004, 10:14 PM Did you ask about it being a painted Baldwin when you ordered?
10-ton 07-26-2004, 10:23 PM They said they were made by Baldwin , but that's ok because I was looking for a local supplier of Baldwin anyway.
dieselboostfreak 07-26-2004, 10:59 PM Anybody find out if these are legit? I mean if they are just a simple baldwin filter that kills the excitement. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
Max Owner 07-26-2004, 11:04 PM Strange. The Baldwin oil filters up here are $8.25 Cdn. I would expect them to be cheaper than $8. Macs price seems better.
jbplock 07-27-2004, 05:37 AM I bought a case of 12 Baldwin B1441's from Westfleet.com (http://www.Westfleet.com) last year.. Price per filter was under 6.00 (about 5.50 IIRC) and they charged actual shipping (no handling).

Georgecls 07-27-2004, 08:27 AM The CAT oil filters are definately not CAT manufactured..
And no, not of the quality of the CAT fuel filter.
George Morrison
Our local Cat dealer is also a Baldwin Distributor. Ring Power at many locations in Florida, if anyone is interested.
dieselboostfreak 07-27-2004, 02:10 PM So, dont buy these? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
Noble1 07-27-2004, 05:33 PM I just changed the oil in my GMC and I got an oil filter and a 2,1/2 gal jug of 15w40 form John Deere for $26. The filter cost like $3.29 or somthing. JD filters are of good quality as I have seen many cut open and they are well built IMHO. Don't know who they have make them but that is what I am going to use.

I would gladly use the CAT Filters if they were re-labeled Baldwin B1441's... Last time I checked the Badwin had the best specs of all the all the oil filters available for the Duramax: 8 micron nominal (50%, Beta =2) and 23 micron absolute (98.7%, Beta = 75)
See Oil Filter for Duramax question (http://dieselplace.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2614&KW=B1441+beta) for more info.

redneck45 07-28-2004, 07:15 AM GSXRturbo1, Hi Tom, just realized I used to live across the street from you! Eric here, I had the red Z71, you live between the other two Toms! I moved last summer. You were part of the reason I got a Dmax, never got a ride in yours, but after driving one had to have it. Got a juice coming hopefully this week! How is your tranny holding the HJ?
Noble1, what is the JD part # for the oil filter?
GSXRTURBO1 07-28-2004, 09:28 AM Hey redneck45/Eric, small world! So far so good, no trans problems approx 26K miles. Eventually I'll upgrade.
Noble1 07-28-2004, 03:20 PM Pick: I can't remember off hand but I can get it for you. I think be box is still in the trash in the shop. I can swing by and get it and get back to you.
Noble1 07-28-2004, 06:17 PM The JD oil filter # is TY22085 for anyone that wants to know.
10-ton 08-15-2004, 10:37 PM Just got the oil filters I ordered from the local Cat dealer and when I open up the carboard I found four Baldwin B1441's ,which is find because that is what I was looking for any way. Just thought I'd let everyone know. Brian
