I have a 2002 2500 HD with a 6 Speed. I have had 5 flywheels replaced and need another. The truck is in the shop due injectors flooding the crankcase with fuel. It seems that these flywheels can fail due to bad injectors changing the resonant frequency of the engine. Any Ideas? One we removed was so bad that they could not get to the retaining bolts to remove it. GM refuses to install another flywheel saying that there is no long term durability issues with this, but I have an extreme vibration that they can't seem to realize. Has anybody had any problems after the repalcement of injectors? My oil pressure was dropping and I feel there was permanent engine damage.

The flywheels are a big problem as are injectors. Rumor has it that GM is designing a new flywheel. I am going with Mac's clutch and flywheel setup. I don't think GM can make a strong enough DMF. On the injector question I am still on my first set so far, but I am counting the days.

They told me for the last 6 months there is a new one on the drawing board....is Mac's an aftermarket option?

Is either one out yet? I have not had and answer back from gm or cpmac yet?

CPmac's are done. If all goes well I will have a dual disc in Friday.

I haven't installed mine yet, but I have one of CPMac's setups (single disc) still in the box in my garage fixin to be installed next weekend. After 2 DMF's, I don't want any more, even if they are free. Now 5 is a lot! I thought 2 was bad at 46K miles.

mwhitfil,
Hey, I just saw you're in Grapeland? which I think is about 180miles from Austin? Maybe we could do both trucks at once? Was planning to do mine next weekend Aug 7th, I hope, at least that's the current plan. I can't do it this weekend, we hafta drive out to sunny Clovis, NM for a wedding (bad flywheel and all). Hopefully it'll hold together for the 1200+ mile roundtrip...

Hey Tim
I am interested in the set up you are installing in your truck. I have been unable to find any aftermarket options. I will probably hang with the production model till the warranty runs out but would like to keep updated on how yours is doing. I am having a few bigger problems at the moment with the injectors. None of my flywheels completely failed so I hopefully you can make the trip alright. What brand and where can I find info on the clutch. My truck has 76,000 and I think GM is going to put one more flywheel, I will wait and see.

It held together just fine after 1300 miles. I bought the single disc setup from CPMac. You can find him on the vendor forum.
Also, I was concerned about why GM would put these POS DMF on our trucks. There seemed to be two reasons possible: a) The transmission req'd it in order top hold together, or b) Controlling the noise from the engine.
I sent a note off to ZF about this and received a very technical response within 24hrs. The response I received was basically that ZF was told by GM that it was using the DMF for noise control. ZF confirmed the tranny could be used with a SMF with no side-effects. I placed my order w/ CPMac the same day...
It'll cost some $$$, and realizing that it's still under warranty takes a bit to get used to, but you shouldn't have to worry about it again and I don't know about you, but I hate to take my truck to the dealer for anything. The only thing they'll ever see my truck for is injectors or fuel pump, that's it. And even at that, I'll take it to someplace who has a voice on this forum, I don't care how far I have to drive it or haul it to get it there.
FYI...

THANKS and I will look into it if I don't trade the truck first. I have bigger fish in the pan now with the injector problems.

I got my new Flywheel installed today and so far so good. The other ones sounded good at the beginning (except one which never left the parking lot) so I will wait and see how long this one lasts. It only took a couple of days to get it after I told the dealer of the new part number. That makes #6
