: What type of Air horn would produce a loud but deeper sound?
Z71 Grizzly 12-01-2006, 12:04 AM I've narrowed it down to either Nathan's or Leslies for horns. I don't think Grovers or Hadleys have anything I'd like. I don't want something as loud as a train horn were I'd wake people up 3 miles away. I'd like a loud but deeper tone and I want to still use the steering wheel/horn button for it also. You know flip the switch from the stock horn to the air horn and back. If I could run something from one of the switches in the Trippin mount in the overhead console that'd be good. I knw I'll have to use a relay or something but I want it simple, functional, and a clean setup for everything. Thank's
CAVelocity 12-01-2006, 07:41 AM Check out www.hornblasters.com and look at their "conductor's special" kit. That is what I installed. It comes with everything you need including 3 gal. tank, Viair compressor, and (4) plastic horns. I think the sound of the horns is perfect.... they are definantly not the same as a "real" train horn, but for the price I am more than satisfied. It also comes with an electric valve solenoid that can be wired like you want (no separate relay needed). I went ahead and just tapped off of my stock horn.... so they all go off of the steering wheel.
I was able to fit everything under the truck without losing the spare, but I have a little extra room under there as a result of the lift and exhaust. Installed pics are in my garage.
Diesel-N-Dust 12-01-2006, 10:10 AM go to a Peterbuilt or a Mack dealership.
Z71 Grizzly 12-01-2006, 01:22 PM Have a Big Rig shop about 3/4 a mile from my house, Thanks
Is there any horns that are noticablely loud but not higher pitched either. I liked the Leslie Tyfon A-200 that is and old style locomotive type horn. I'd like to have something that is not going to have people have me arrested for blowing their ear drums if I sound it off a little. I wouldn't be an immature child with it and sneak up to people, I just want another horn other than the wussy factory horn so people that know me know it's me coming as long as it's not obnoxious.
Diesel Dually 12-01-2006, 05:54 PM Grover Stuttertones (The original Firetruck Airhorn) are the way to go for me...
Firescooby 12-01-2006, 07:27 PM Grover Stuttertones (The original Firetruck Airhorn) are the way to go for me...
DITTO!!! That's what we got on all of our trucks...and the sound is deep and loud. You can tune it how you want by turning the bell/end. Beware though...they use ALOT of air.
We actually spec our truck with an electric headlight flasher unit wired into the airhorn solenoid. It alternates the horns. It was originally used to save air, but it gets peoples attention better as well.
Z71 Grizzly 12-03-2006, 09:36 PM Can you guys tell me more about these horns and also kinda compare how loud they are to something. I don't want pull me over loud from a mile away. Want to hook it up to the steering wheel button also. And everything concealed and safe underneath if possible
DangerousDuramax 12-03-2006, 09:57 PM rttoys has an awesome set of horns on his truck. Not sure what they are but they are deep and loud. Give him a pm and see.
HoustonDMax 12-04-2006, 08:09 AM IIRC, at the DI get together back in October, rttoys said his were the conductors special from hornblasters. He had to cut one bell off with his install, but it still sounded good.
Z71 Grizzly 12-04-2006, 07:24 PM Thank's guys
Diesel-N-Dust 12-04-2006, 07:47 PM Food for thought: Train horns, Firetruck horns, etc. are NOT street legal for the public to use on roads. Truck horns are.

schulte 12-04-2006, 11:24 PM I don't want pull me over loud from a mile away.
Yes you do ;)
GMC2500HD 12-04-2006, 11:30 PM Like Houston Dmax said, one of the other guys on here has those horn blasters and they are loud and sound very good. I am thinking about those myself.
HoustonDMax 12-05-2006, 08:12 AM I pieced together the parts (isn't Ebay wonderful!) for an install that I hope to do this weekend. Horns are the three bell Omega's. Not a true train horn, but sound was acceptable to me. Sound seems very similiar to the hornblaster's 4 bell setup. However, unitl hearing them side by side, really won't know for sure.
Where to mount the horns is going to be interesting, as I really don't want to cut the bells off.
GMC2500HD, go for it! I want to compare side by side next time I see you.
Z71 Grizzly 12-06-2006, 11:37 PM Hope ya figure it out and take some pics when your done.:D
CAVelocity 12-07-2006, 07:45 AM Where to mount the horns is going to be interesting, as I really don't want to cut the bells off.
Just trying to figure out where to put all of the components is definently the hardest part of the install.... good luck!
Z71 Grizzly 12-07-2006, 02:51 PM You did a good job on your setup, CAVelocity. Probably sounds good too.

I looked at them and I really like the sound of the Jum2 double horn setup. Like that BOOOP BOOOP sound, deep. I'd like to have a kit with a horn like that and a compressor, tank, and all the wiring.

Jason was a great guy to deal with. i got my viair 460-c and tank and all fittings from him. and he kept in touch with me to talk about how things were going. i have a nathan p3 on my truck. my dad has a WOLO cannon ball express for his truck. we still need to hook it up. but its got a good sound to it.
Z71 Grizzly 12-19-2006, 09:27 PM Does anyone know of more american horns that compare to the deepness or deeper than the Stebel horns/ Jum2. Don't wanna shatter ear drums just be noticable
Z71 Grizzly 01-17-2007, 09:08 PM Would anyone know of somewhere I could get a set of Nathan M3 horns to put on the Dmax? I found this guy who has all different sounds of train horns and I really like this tone.

You can get them on ebay, but get ready to spend some serious $$$$$$.
Z71 Grizzly 01-18-2007, 11:14 PM I've found that out and I think I might go with a P3 setup eventually. I'd like to see all different pictures of peoples setups so I can kinda figure out where to mount mine underneath when I'd do it.
