um a complete rebuild on the engine. a bigger turbo if you want more boost like rigger or ctdp. a chip for more fuel, or a db2 conversion. id think anwhere near 2 g's.

wow, do u have to get a bigger turbo right away?? I plan on getting a chip soon. What does it consist of just for rebuilding the motor part of it?

gaskets, rods, pistons, honing, boring if problems w/ block, balancing the rotating assembly. the rebuild kits ive seen w/ 18:1s are around $900. you dont have to have a bigger turbo if you dont want one. the stocker gmx will work fine.

the bigger turbo isnt a requirement...building an 18:1 engine is as simple as changing the pistons (if you'd call that simple.) However, in the neverending quest for power, main stud girdles or splayed mains are also required....the benefit of 18:1 CR is that you can crank the boost up to levels that are unsafe for these engines with the stock CR (I think somewhere around 21)

The guys running 18:1 are either rebuilding a blown engine or starting over from scratch because they have just blown theirs, once again, because of the never-ending search for power, whether it be in truck pulls or drag racing...If you have a good engine, chip it and add an intercooler. It'll give you better results for comparable money (probably less)...with the rebuild, without an IC, you won't be able to crank it up too much anyways...

Be careful running 12 PSI constantly...you're up around the max these engines can safely run without hurting the heads...just keep an eye on the EGT's and you shold be OK...

I'd mod the one you have now first. ie: IC, chip, boost fooler... All of this will be usable on an 18:1 which you could build after your good motor craters. JMO

ah, 18:1 is different, totally different. Turbo is nice to change, the stock gm8 really cannot suppor the needs of the lower comp.

it is a big comitment, let me know what you are wanting to do, ttlyl

goalie, honestly i think with a ic and a chip(ap. $500-$600) and you will be more than happy. mine runs like a striped blood ape at 15psi. only way i would consider 18:1 is if i blew mine. youre talkin alot of work, time, and money going to a 18:1 with minimal results if you dont do it right

amen to that. with the set up i have i have more than enough get up and go for what i need right now. i might get a bigger wastegated turbo for faster spool but thats it. when i blow the one i have is when im gonna rebuild w/ 18:1 CR.
