OK, I am in the process of getting a set of H2 wheels (17X8) and I need to know what kind of tires I can use with them on a 2004 GMC 2500 with out any lift kit or cranking on the T. bars. I like to use Michelin tires but I don't see any 17 inch tires on their LTX M/S listings. The Bridgestone Revos would be my second choice but I don't see any 285/75(or 70)/17's there either. Should I use 265's instead? I don't do a lot of heavy hauling but don't want a real lightweight (passenger)tire either. I don't mind trimming some of the fender liner back or pulling the brake lines out of the way,etc but I really don't want to raise the truck or mess up the ride quality. So what are you guys running on your H2s with the stock suspensions? Thanks for your input.

I'm running the 315's, cranked TB's 1 3/4" and ride was not affected on GA roads. Not the case on PA roads, they're rough and so was the ride.

I am using BFG 285/70-17s All Terrain KO on my chromed
H2 wheels. Heres some Pictures (http://207.53.239.181/~terry/truck/H2-wheels/)

I did not touch the torsion bars, but I did some very minor
trimming on the corners of the airdam. Also, my truck is a
2 wheel drive so it's not raised high by any means...

good luck,

T.

Terry,

Nice work. I think that is what I'm going to do as well, although I'm 4x4 and will probably crank the T-bars a little. Did you put the Bilsteins on yourself? If so, how much difference in ride from OEM?

I like the Allison logo and the back-up lights, too.

Terry,
Thanks for the info. How do you like those All Terrains? They look good on your truck! Do they ride and handle good? Quiet? I don't want alot of noise or a "Dump Truck" ride.
Thanks,
Don

Thanks! Yes, I installed the Bilsteins myself. I think
it might have taken me an hour for all four (with favorite beverage at-hand). VERY easy job....
They helped some, I was trying to eliminate the "chop"
so I also installed some Velvet Ride shackles. Those
helped some too. The single biggest improvement in
ride quality was to flip the overload springs. I only
did this because I run the roads 98% of the time unloaded. The trailer I tow doesn't even begin to
warrant the use of the overloads either, so I flipped
them over so they don't "engauge". The ride height
is unchanged from stock.... With all the above mentioned "mods" - it rides REALLY good
in my opinion....

good luck & hope this helps,

T.

So far I really like the BFC A/T KOs. They are just a
bit more noisey than the stock tires, but not bad at
all and no, not like a dumptruck either. I did notice
that the truck sits higher - as expected, so now I'm
working on lowering the step bar down about 1" so
it'll be more useful...

Terry,

Thanks for the info. I have to keep the overloads the way they are, since I tow 'fairly' heavy. Some around here tow really heavy, but I am just over 21k total, and that's enough for me. Anyway, I am looking at getting helper springs and air bags for the rear (I don't even know if I can do that at the same time, but I think so.) For the front, Masterp2 did a few threads on some stuff to do, including Bilsteins and some other mods. I want to get some Bilsteins that are about an inch longer than stock, put those on, put green keys in, and do the mods that Masterp2 did (the stainless washers on top).

Don't know anything about velvet ride shackles, but I'll find out what they are.

I only want a total of about 2-3" lift. Then when I tow, I will put the stock wheels and tires back on and put the 5er on.

I have never played with suspensions, but when I get the H2s, it's game on. I am going to try to find a tire shop that will trade me straight up for some 285's for the 315's that are on there. Hopefully someone will do it.

Thanks again,
Dennis
