If you push it hard your tranny will suffer for sure.

I'd say yes its too much.

Some have limped their trannys with a 65 h.p. tune and others have not on a 100 tune....I hope a built tranny is in your forecast.

No a built tranny is not in my future...Thats my main reason for asking the question. I guess I'll get the tune taken out of the truck. I thought it was gonna be a litte more conservitive tune around 50hp or so.

i think if you drive around normal for a few weeks and let everything adjust you wont be as likely to limp it. its the guys who put the tune in and drive down the street hard in it that limp it.

I run 100 plus tunes all the time have 37,000 on truck you will probably throw a p01093 code though without lift pumps and my trans I still going great.

if you have no plans for a tranny i dont know if it is something you want to run all the time. maybe go for the dsp2 switch and have a 50 and 100hp tune cause if you tow with a 100hp tune you will be putting alot of stress on the tranny

same here i get on it every now and again but i usually drive it really nice. i was over at the diesel shop and the guy was looking at my edge records and he was laughing at me because i "need to drive this damn thing" i think you will be fine, just dont get on it hard in the upper gears

When we did our long term testing we found that with 50RwHp increase we saw transmission life at about 80K miles. That was mostly highway towing miles, but it gives you something to go by.

Are you saying that your tranny only lasted 80K? My truck already has 83k on it.

Hmmm, how much will a stock allison handle? 50Rwhp is a joke with most tuners these days.

What I am telling you is that if your truck is a LLY version if you add 50 RwHp to it and tow most of its life expect the transmission to start having troubles around 75 - 85K miles. If you have 83K on it and have add the power now I cannot tell you how long it will last with 100RwHp added at this point. Alot is all in how the truck has been treated before the power adder but the converter and C2 clutch pack isn't going to like it much. If your running a LB7 version the RwHp numbers (80) are a little higher as the base package started out lower. Bottom line is its going to fail when adding power. How much the power is used and how long it is used will change how long things last for.

Thanks for all the info guys, I got a 50 hp tune put in the truck but that didnt feel right. The boost came in all at once so it was anoying to drive. The guy doing the tuning is new to duramax's but lots of experince on LSx vehicles and I just dont have the time to be a be testing things out so now I'm back to stock.

Trans life will depend on TQ more than HP. Since this is the LB7 forum I'll stick with the LB7 details, but much of this holds true for the LLY as well. The LLY turbo just helps it get down lower in the RPM curve with the TQ. I have a tune that makes a nice flat TQ curve at 600-650 LB/Ft that makes about 370RWHP (a 120-ish gain) that I think will be relatively safe with a stock transmission.

It's also a little "the luck of the draw" also. I have a couple of my trucks at 300,000 miles, with a tow tune and towing, and no tranny problems.

I also have one that started slipping the tranny at 30,000 miles with the same tune. It now has an upgraded tranny.:thumb:

i run a bully dog on there 95 hp setting and i have 116000 miles with no problem. it has not been run on 95 hp its whole life but the last 60000 miles. before that it ran the 40hp tow tune. i not saying my trans is brand new but i beat the crap out of my truck every day and it shifts great. i limped it once a while back but since then no probs. i go to the track with it and tow also and it runs great. i still want a new trans but i got no money!
