Hey guys, I've been running Amsoil BMK-13 for 2K miles. I'm running Rotella 5-30w syn and at first(500 miles) the oil was alot cleaner then other oil changes, but now its looking really dark. Is this normal or do your oils look clean after 2-3K miles? Truck has 15K Thanks

Yeah, most people have described the same thing on this forum. This is perfectly normal for a diesel engine. (Althogh, it happens in pretty much any internal combustion engine)

The only reason I asked was because I also read that if you install this kit on the truck without an oil change that it will clean the oil.

The condition of oil is not determined just by the look of it. The best way to understand the condition is by using Oil Analysis. The results will tell you the condition of the oil scientifically.

A standard full-flow oil filter is only good for about 25 to 30 microns of filtration by design (can't starve lubrication flow). A bypass will take your oil filtration down to 2 to 5 microns (much better, but done in "bypass" so it can't starve your lubrication). Diesel engines produce soot in the oil, you can't avoid it. The soot particles are much smaller than 1 micron, which can't be effectively filtered, but which also can't be a wear issue. Diesel oil is black - nature of the beast.
