: Bought H2 wheels ...what tires and other ???
I made a post about some chrome H2 wheels in excellent shape I could get for $300 !! Most said it was a good deal and I looked on ebay for a week or so and felt it was a good deal so I bought them today !!
If you guys had just rims..........what tires would you put on ? I like my BFG AT's.......would you go 285/70/17 or the 315/70/17 or something else ?
If I go 315's I know where I have to cut based on my current 285's but where is the e-brake cable that everyone says to tie back......haven't noticed it ?
Anybody know if I can put one of my stock rims w/285 under my truck for a spare ?
minisub 11-29-2006, 02:10 PM I went the same route: Chrome H2s off of ebay for about the same price. I went with the 285 BFG ATs bought and mounted locally. I wasn't willing to do what it takes to fit the 315s on a 3 week old truck....I like my setup just fine.
The ebrake cable is behind the wheel liner just about under where your left foot would be when driving. In addition to tying back the cable I melted 2 holes in the liner and pulled that in as well.
zr2yz125 11-29-2006, 02:11 PM I'm running the 285/70/17. It's the perfect size. Fits good, looks great. I am running a 285/something/16 spare on the stock rim. It fits, and the diameters are very close to one another. I know the tire is too wide for the rim, but it is the spare, It will only see a few days of its life touching the ground (hopefully)....
The BFG AT 285/70/17 is available in 2 styles, blackwall or RWL. I am running the blackwall version
Thanks !!
Oh yeh........another big ??? I read that my center caps on my factory wheels will not work on these without modification ! Will the same looking center caps for the lower grade 5 spoke factory wheels work without modifying them ???
Bigboar 11-29-2006, 05:16 PM Minisub, do you have any more pic's of your truck with the H2's, Thanks
ratlover 11-29-2006, 05:30 PM 33x12.5 Mickey Thompson ATZ's :D
They measure as tall as my 265 75 r 16's do.....a lil dissapointing but it means they fit well. Nice wide look.
You can run spacers in the rear and run the H2 caps. Thats what I did. After I painted and filled them of course
floriduramax1 11-29-2006, 05:38 PM I purchased a set with 315's already on them had 600 miles on bfg all terrain
(see garage) I did all the necessary mods. I like them alot but when it comes time for new I will go back with 285 bfg all terrains.
Bigboar 11-29-2006, 06:13 PM Good looking truck with the H2's floriduramax1. If anybody else has them please post some pic's. I was going to put 265's on mine.
I definately will use the GMC centercaps (like that look better) !! What do I need to do to use the GMC centercaps ??
Why would you guys rather have the 285's than the 315's...........gas milage.......rubbing ????
Can you run 315's by only turning the t-bars, trimming, and pulling the e-brake back.........or is there more to it ???
jmac660 11-29-2006, 07:25 PM I have a few pictures in my garage of H2's with chevy caps and with hummer caps.
minisub 11-29-2006, 08:19 PM Minisub, do you have any more pic's of your truck with the H2's, Thanks
Now that I am just about done with exterior stuff, I really need to update my garage....:banghead: :help2:

Pull the feet out of the spacers and then clip the barrels with diagonal cutters and you are good to go. They will not fit tight if you want to use them back on the stockers

I am pretty sure the 315s require a BFH and a sawzall....
JoshH 11-29-2006, 08:35 PM Another vote for the 285s. I'm running the Toyo Open Country A/Ts and have been very happy so far. I've got over 20k on them and they seem to be wearing very well. I'm also running the stock chevy center caps on them, the ones of the PYO aluminum wheels. I didn't do any modifications to make them fit, but the black plastic nuts on the cap just barely catch the threaded portion on the lug nut. Supposedly you can cut the little legs off the center cap to make it grab better. I think I remember reading that the center caps used on the steel wheels require some trimming around the outside of the cap to make it fit inside the center cap opening in the H2 wheels. Good luck with your decision.

You use the GMC lug nuts and grind off the littlle plastic posts used as "stand offs". The 315's seem to be alot of unnecassary load on drive train.
What I mean is, I do not want a lift yet (some day when I drive one I like I will want one) so a large tire is not practical for me. Not to mention, I like to leave all the "Latino fast and furious bumble bee sounding P.O.S.'s"
at the red lights. We seem to have an abundance here in central Florida.
Thanks guys I really appreciate the feedback !!
Anybody with a comment please let me know because I would like as much info as possible when I start getting tires and putting these on !!
I will have to get a centercap and look at it to see what I need to do......I think I can pick up an extra set pretty easy/cheap at a local truck customizer !!
gearhead 11-29-2006, 11:07 PM the 88 to 98 center caps fit and look better in my opinion. look in my garage
WanaDmxsub 11-30-2006, 12:17 AM If you can find a set of 315/70/17's on e-bay for under $500 and can live with some rubbing then get them. If you are going to pay full price for a new set of tires I would stay under a 34" tire.
JMHO

Do you have any better pictures?
Now looking at BFG 285/70/17's..........Nitto TG 295/70/17's......and Goodyear makes a M/T in a 305/70/17 !!
What do you guys think........and do you think a 305/70/17 would require a lot to work or just cranked t-bars,fenderwell modifications ,and tying back the cables (BTW I found the e-brake cable ....thanks) ??
WanaDmxsub 12-02-2006, 01:05 AM ...I believe that you will also have to trim some of the bumper, but I'm not sure, I don't have a GMC. Remember that all trucks are different some rub, some rub more than others and some don't. On my truck the 305 would be a perfect fit.
duramax02 12-03-2006, 09:43 AM Mine with procomp 305/65R17 xtreme a/t's. They fit great.
Thanks !! I was leaning the 305 direction but got a real good deal on a barely used set of 285/70/17 BFG TKO's yesterday !! Hopefully I can get them mounted and have them on in the next week or two !!
Since they will be the same height as what I am running now and not much different in width.........ya'll think I need to get an alignment done........I guess it would be a good idea but I just had one done about a month ago !!

not right now, they are put up for the winter.

If the only thing that you are changing is the tires/wheels and since you just had an alignment done I would bother. If your crankin' on the bars then you will need an alignment done.
