hey guys. I got 138,000 miles I just installed head studs, gaskets, new injector sleeves and all other necessary stuff to do the job. Drove the truck for a week ran perfect. so I programed my ppe box back in truck ran great for 3-4 days and still runs great but I started seeing white smoke on start up and for about 1/2 mile down the road starting out. I thought for sure it was antifreeze but I'm not losing a drop. I took the program back to stock now I dont have the major smoke problem but noticed the pcv vent hose has constant vapors coming out of it and the truck always smells like raw fuel. I think maybe the smoke wasn't really coming out of the exhaust before it was just blowing back from the pcv and looking like it.
Any ideas guys before I go crazy. It was my first time tearing into a duramax and I've got probably 30 + hours invested in labor plus about $1200 worth of parts in the motor with studs, gaskets, and sleeves. someone think its the injectors or a fuel rail seal leaking??? thanks,

Blowby by the piston rings?

That is what it would be in a gasser.

Just a thought....................

what is your oil level? Did you replace all the return line seals? Is it possibly you have fuel in the oil? How old are the injectors? Those will/can cause white smoke. As for the blow by, how much comes out the cap? A little vapor out the valve cover is normal at idle, thats what the PCV system is there for. No vacuum to help seal the rings and lots of combustion pressure to push past them. You should see non or very little if checking it at the oil cap though.

Any ideas on mine? Similar issue? My injectors now have about 30k miles on them. I get a good amount of white smoke out of the PCV tube with and without the rad cap tightened. My balance rate is way off. Vapor has no smell at all. I have thought to check with the oilf fill cap off and never rembered.

Well I do have fuel in the oil confirmed that today. injectors have 138,000 miles on them I took it to the dealer today and they said they will put new injectors in it friday and it will only cost me $100 for the deductible. I'm thinking if its a return line seal or injectors then this should fix the problem I hope. I'm going to do a coolant pressure test before I take it over just to be sure that the new sleeves all sealed good. Then I guess if I have to I'll have them fix that too. I think the injectors are just leaking off though and flooding the cylinders when the truck is shut off??

get your money back for the deductable. There is not one for fuel in the oil.

Mine is going in tonight for the smokeing PCV and balance rate. This PCV smokes like an exhaust pipe. I pulled the oil cap and it really huffes the smoke out there as well (just checked to make sure). I disabled the out of spec injector with my scan tool and smoke was still there, just not as bad. I hope i can get a new set of squirters and can call it good. This truck had two complete sets done by previous owner, truck now at 164k.

Well I dont know if I'll be able to get by without paying the $100 deductible. Maybe I wont have to I'll talke to them when I take it in friday, that would be nice.
My truck is also blowing from the pcv just like that also the dipstick, and filler neck. They shouldn't give you any problems they immediately told me just to bring it in friday and they had all the parts in stock to fix it. I figure even if I have to pay $100 for injectors thats a good deal. Seeing as though I might have shortened there life with the ppe programmer. good luck

Also has anyone had problems with noisy turbo? I thought it was the injectors but I held a screwdriver in several places to listen today and the motor purrs like a kitten but the turbo sounds like a lifter ticking????

Dealer called me last night and told me the smoke from the filler neck and PCV was normal. But this isn't a little vapor, this is a good bit of smoke. I told him my #6 injector was running 11-14 ish on the balance rate, he told me it idled fine and didn't know why i brought it in. Trying to decide it i need to go get me truck and look for another dealer.

And good suggestion for a Duramax mechanic in NE Indiana?

dont let them push you around. If its like mine smoke surrounds the truck coming out of the pcv and pulling the filler cap and dipstick tube will burn your eyes from the vapors. If this is normal I'll go against my religion and never buy a gm again. Tell him to read the gm sign that is posted at all dealerships. the customer is right, dont argue, we need the customer more than the customer needs us, if it werent for the customer we wouldn't be here, and so on. Tell him to buy a $40,000 when new truck that blows smoke and is turning the oil into fuel and see how he likes it. my dealer said if theres fuel in the oil than they're replacing injectors. look at your didpstick real good when you pull it run your hand down the braided part of the stick and see if you get some clear liquid on your hands. then look real close at the oil on the stick mines starting to get a greenish tint to it and lightening way up. I only have about 500 miles on the oil too. good luck.

Thanks man.

I have tried to find fuel in my oil and I think there might be some, but it's hard to tell. I don't have a typical flooded engine like most do.
