well for a 99 the owner's manual lists 6500lbs with 3:73's and 8000 with 4.10's
with a 5th wheel probally more.

Go to RPO list in your glove box vs, RPO in FAQ and it will tell you your factory rating; then start doing some mods and you can get WAY more power for the tow, upgrade brakes & suspension, then you have the ability to carry the extra weight safely, quality trailer brakes, & controller are a must as well.

, but if stopped you still are ticketable by what is on the door sticker for your carry weight, so be prepared to fight the fine or accept it. How much you figger you might want to pull.

Tires count, too ... if somebody has put a light load-range tire on it, you can't load-on squat.

They're under-rated, at best. Turbine Doc will gross +24,000 lbs. with his K1500. I will gross +31,000 lbs. with mine. He's got much better transmission cooling than I do, though. His "system" he has is superior to most. Keep things cool and you'll be fine.

Be sure you have sufficient brakes on your trailer to get things shut down in an emergency.

It's possible dealer printout can give you some of your missing info

Is the dealer printout different than the ones i got in the vin lookup, it showed me the codes, but sadly did not translate them, i went through them and it said 8600 lbs and 4.10's thats all i got,
also since you guys tow, any suggestions on tranny kits or mods, i had a transgo in a gas f-350 and it was much better, but my tranny in this chevy doesnt like to engage when its first cold and it doesnt seem to be locked in even at high speed?
I will add a trans temp gauge, larger aluminum pan and anythng else?

Dealer print should give maintenance history if it ever went to a GM dealer for service, and may give you more info than a VIN check, for more power tips there is a extensive thread in FAQ on how to build for more power in stages, also some dyno charts with after mod performance numbers

I have that same Truck with same gears, I tow a trailer with tractor on at 6500 lbs. make sure your truck has a tranny cooler, I thought mine had but it did'nt. I upgraded the cooling system and 4" exhaust. Truck does pretty good now.. over 200,000 miles on truck..
