: Loose U-Joint

I have a loose u-joint bearing in an ’84 ½ ton Silverado. It is the rear u-joint. One of the bearings is loose in its hole in the drive shaft. The retainer holds it in place but when it is not under load, it flops around and you can hear it clank. I have not taken it out yet but I am sure that when I do I will be able to push it out with my fingers after removing the retainer, no press required. Just guessing, I would say that the hole in the drive shaft flange is a bit to large for the bearing.
My question is: How do I tighten it up so it doesn’t flop around?

ag4gt,

ok take it off , use a sharp pointed chisel , hammer the yoke of your drive shaft giving you points like this ........................ all the way around ,

Im not sure if your talking about the drive shaft or the rear end yoke ,but this will work for either .

good luck

Seems that you are not familiar with U-joints so I would suggest you take the drive-line assembly down to a drive-line shop and let them do the job for you. You might as well change out the front joints too as I am sure they are worn out.
