: Injector Replacement
MertCheney 07-20-2004, 10:17 PM

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif I just had all 8 injectors replaced in my 2003 Duramax with only 12500 miles on it. I like the truck but am discouraged with this turn of events. This truck has pulled very little and I have used additive. I have a Frame mount Racor yet to be added. The truck is stock and has always run good until I developed a slow/hard start situation. I can only remember the days of my 1994 6.5 whch I could never keep running right! I thought the 2003 trucks had the newer style injectors.

ronadijcks 07-21-2004, 10:01 PM Mine is in the shop now for the same problem. The injectors are on national backorder, with no arrival time available. Special.
I need my truck and I am in a "loaner" which couldn't tow a wave runner.
Been over a week in the shop as of now, and the dealer, says, might be another week, or longer.
MertCheney 07-21-2004, 11:31 PM http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gifMy truck was repaired at Threeway Chevrolet in Bakersfield Ca. It was completed in two days. I can only quess that they have a liitle edge on getting these parts as they sell and move alot of trucks as well as cars. They knew right away what the problem was and fixed it promptly. It runs smoother now and actually seems to shift a little smoother. They claim to have one of the best Chevy mechanics in Calif. I am satisfied as long as the repair holds. The service Manager indicated they have completed these repairs on many 2003 Ca models. He did add no-one has had to come back yet.

dmaxalliTech 07-22-2004, 12:19 AM We are having a heck of a time getting injectors here... Cleaned up everyone in a 500 mile radius. Got 4 trucks down between our two stores and I know of 3 trucks personally that need them, but are driveable..http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

What dealer is your truck in?
ronadijcks 07-22-2004, 02:19 AM Don't think it would be wise at this point, to mention the name of the dealer, since there may be a possible re-acquire (which would be in the best interests of GM since I am willing to pursue legally if need be.) But, it (the dealer) is within 30 miles from my home! Also, there are other issues with the truck that add to the case.
A branded lemon, is at best, a hard resale.
I don't want to cause any issues for the dealer! They have been cordial and helpful and understanding of my issues. Plus, they have helped me with a vehicle, while they sort it out.

Out of curiousity what month was your truck made?
MertCheney 07-22-2004, 09:32 AM My truck was built in January of 2003. My guess would be that the engine was probably built before that. Like I said before, the truck runs good now, sounds a little different and seems to have more power.

arguy 07-22-2004, 09:53 PM I am new to this forum. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif Just purchased 02 on Saturday with 148,000 miles, crankcase filled up with fuel in 50 miles. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Angry.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif GM says they will replace the injectors "if" found to be the trouble. My question is how much damage would that much fuel in the crankcase cause. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif

My question is how much damage would that much fuel in the crankcase cause. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gif There has been dozens of trucks that I have heard about with this exact problem. And it does not seem to bother them much if any.
mwhitfil 07-22-2004, 10:24 PM My truck is in the shop for the fuel in the crankcase also. I need a Dual Mass flywheel also. GM wont replace the flywheel because of some engineering report, but my dealer found the injectors in the same day from another dealer. I fear internal damage also.
Mine is also sitting at the Stealer now. Been there since a week ago yesterday waiting on Injectors. They had 8 in stock and then found out 2 were bad (great). I was told they could not go to any other Stealer as these needed to be ordered directly from GM. No time frame has been given on delivery of the parts. The Service manager said they are shipping for 2004, and 2001, 02, and 03's are on backorder. I'm out $600 a day for boat deliveries and may loose the contract if I miss more time. I'm thinking the "Professional Grade" refers to the slope of the drive to the service entrance.
compressor59 07-23-2004, 10:42 PM I just got my 01 back last for injectors the said 4-6 weeks delivery I raise holy heck with G.M. and they actually authorized for me to rent a truck and send any bills to chevy including deposit for camp ground I had to cancel due to the break down.Funny thing is.The next morning I recieve a call and somehow the dealer recieve injectors ahead of time.So raising cane with them wiil help.Don't bother with the dealer cause they can only do so much and besides they didn't design the crappy injectors
.
mannytranny 07-23-2004, 10:45 PM Royandics, is your truck at paradise?
If so, be glad that it isnt at carraige. Ive dealt with both, and the chevy dealer is head and shoulders above the GMC dealer........
ronadijcks 07-24-2004, 10:51 AM Actually I go to both Paradise and Lake Chevrolet.
Both have been cordial and understanding of my problems. Trouble is, I like my truck. But, I have never paid as much for a vehicle, and in return, had so many problems.
I see many Silverado owners with no problems, so, I wonder if mine was put together on a Monday!
Or a Saturday morning during hangover time!
MertCheney 07-26-2004, 12:21 AM I just completed a 300 mile round trip with the new injectors which included climbing over the Grapevine to LA area. I ran 75 most of the way and averaged around 18 MPG. With the old injectors I couldn't get above 16. Here are a few things I noticed:

1. The power is up and I can hear the turbo on hard acceleration where I couldn't before.

2. I don't hear the pilot injection on and off like I did before.

3. The transmission shifts smoother now.

4. The engine fan seems to kick in a liitle more than it did before. More power more heat? It was a hot day.

5.The truck never ran this good the day it was new. Were the injectors defective in some manner to begin with?
[/list]
Over all I am very pleased with the outcome as long as it holds up. I do wonder if a reflash is involved with this instalation?

192553 07-30-2004, 06:14 PM Just a quick thought, how many of you guys out there are going to do 28,571.42 miles a year? 7 years/200,000 mile warranty.
B_Alaska 07-30-2004, 07:28 PM I averaged 25,000/yr with my 1500 Silverado. I just bought my 2002 duramax last week with 30k and it performs like Mert describes, but I have even better fuel economy 21mpg hwy at the last fill up. I feel stupid, but never checked the history on the truck, just trusted the GM certified program.
