: Exhaust work in Ontario?

So we're having a problem getting the truck and trailer up hills and we don't have very large hills here. It really bogs it down. So we figure that an exhaust is going to be a good start since it's still stock. The problem lies in that we are in Canada for one thing and the other is no many places seem to even have stuff for the 6.5. I called and spoke to the nice guys at BR Powersource, but they don't have much, if anything, for our engines.. they were very great people and gave me one place to call, but this place is more of the sports compact world so I don't know what they will come up with if anything. So I guess I come to my point... Does anyone know of a place within Ontario to get this done by people who know what they are doing? I stopped by the mufflerman, but they can't get a non stock downpipe. I'm not sure at this point as to where to go to get it done. Can anyone shine a light out there for me? Thank You soooo much!

www.kennedydiesel.com (http://www.kennedydiesel.com) or www.heathdiesel.com (http://www.heathdiesel.com)

both of these places have aftermarket downpipes and exhaust systems. you wont find many muffler shops that stock exhaust pipe that is 3.5 or 4 inches in diameter. you will probably have to install a system yourself.

Big rig exhaust shops will have the equipment to make it all for less than you can order it.

The downpipe is just a 3" collector with an expanded lip for the turbo to clamp to, mig welded on.
IMO all you need is the downpipe and enough length to get past the cab.
Everthing else is a restriction.Edited by: quantum mechanic

Thanks, while those two shops would be on the tops of our lists if we lived in the US... we live in Canada. Between the exchange rate, shipping and brokerage fees it would be far out of what we want to spend. Our local muffler shop can only do 3" and can't help me at all with the downpipe.

I have also been to the big rig shop here in town (surprising since there is only 600 people here) and if we wanted stacks or a 5" or bigger exhaust they could help us...lol. Someone PM'd me (and I thank them!) to let me know of a place here in Ontario that can help me so I will try and call them this week to see what they can do to help.

Thanks!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Hug.gif

I'd go with a mail order 4" downpipe and get the big rig place to go five " back.

haha.. I laugh because 5" is falling close to riceboy syndrome..

(btw.. this is my wife's truck.. not mine.. i'm just the mechanic that works for free.. sometimes she'll let me drive it.. )

Naw.. there is only so much that the GM turbo will flow.. now if i had a turbo that was pushing say.. oh.. 25-30lbs of boost at 1200 or so CFM.. then i could see it.. but it isn't gonna happen with my budget.. not this year anyway..

i'd be happy with a 3.5" right now.. that should be more than enough for the eventual goal of around 300hp.

I've done a lot of work with small displacement turbo charged gas engines.. and the devil is definetly in the details.

bigger isn't always better.. and more sometimes results in less.

I'll be probably breaking out the die grinder on sunday to clean up the intake manifold some.. (94 non EGR.. supposedly it feeds 6.5L though small slots.. we'll see)

4" DP and 5" sounds good.. but if i'm gonna do that.. i might as well just dump the exhaust just behind the front wheel. Why haul around 14' of 5" pipe if you don't have too :)

I'd like for my downpipe to come out behind the frontwheel but for somereason you have to go past the cab on road.
If you got a 5" joint of stock, had the place reduce it to fit the 4" and walked out with it, it shouldn't cost more than $30-40.

Diesels flow ten times the atmosphere that gassers use.
Diesels with 21:1 compression justify big exhaust. and the bigger the pipe the better the sound.

3" pipe is more than sufficient for the amount of exhaust flow a 6.5 will produce, given you have a hi-flow muffler and cat....that is if you have a cat at all.

300Hp is quite a tall goal, and you won't get there, well, you might get there but if you want to drive the truck longer than a week you won't stay there without some serious engine mods.

Hi,

Do you have a "CARLINE" exhuast near you? Some people I know had work done by them ( 3 inch I believe ) including 2.5" boomtubes at the back. Boy, you could hear that truck when it left!! Anyway good luck, and let us know how it sounds when it is done!!
