I haven't cleaned my Magnum Force yet. I seen the claim by KN that you can not also.

Why not send a copy to AFE in a Email see if they respond .

When I bought my Pro Gard-7 they sold me a re-charge kit, so if it can't be cleaned why have a clean and re-oil kit?

The boat guy also said AFE was going out of business. Well he said they were stopping the sell of all their filter, so that tlls me that if a company stops selling everything they build and sell, then they are going out of business.

He mentioned something about AFE employees starting rumors about K&N. It looks like maybe it is the other way around.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Here is what I know:

I have had a pro guard filter for about 18,000 miles. I tryed to clean it at about 15,000 miles. I could not believe how dirty it was. I do mostly highway miles, so I was expecting it to go much longer. I clean it 3 times over a weekend, and it never really got to where it looked clean. Even after 3 cleanings, you would never guess what the original color was. Alot of dirt did come out of it though. I put it back in about 3000 miles ago, but if you looked at it today, you would tell me to pull it out and clean it immediatly.

k&n is the same way. once you get them dirty they never go back to there orginal shade of color. cleaned at least a hundred or so. had them get so dirty in bikes, i just replaced them.

I noticed a funny thing when I switched from the original AFE to the Proguard. My filter minder started to show movement to the first line. The original filter never moved it. More things that make you go Hmmmmmm. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

I am bumping this so maybe the guy (Boat guy from the enemy filter company) that made the accusation will explain why he made the remarks that he did.

I cleaned my fairly new PG7 and it seemed to be a bit dirty looking afterward also. Also noticed the filter minder had moved a notch too for the first time...figured that was from the JK/VA though. Edited by: motovet

If you go to proguard7direct.com and read the info on the proguard 7 filters, It clearly states that it is cleanable filter. So apparently the rumor isn't true. Check it out from the source for yourselves.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

The rumor was started by a AFE wannabe.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Evil Smile.gif boat guy started it then said nothing else. he knew what he was starting at the time. if you noticed, he also said that AFE was going to stop selling all their filtershttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Dead.gifEdited by: hdmax

I emailed the guys at pro-guard 7 about all the cleaning and filter sales rumors. He said that it was all a pack of lies. Just like I figured when I read them. I couldn't see how they would discontinue a line they just came out with.

I recently fixed my "minder" and was surprised to see it hit the first click also. This was with a std AFE filter (stage 1) and a sock. The sock reduces flow VERY little...Edited by: Kennedy

I am going to wait until I get juiced (just waiting, I must be last on the group buy list), then go with the Pro Guard 7.

Thanks,
Dennis

Like I stated before, I emailed the people at AFE and Proguard 7 Direct and they said all of the rumors were BS! They aren't going anywhere. All the K&N boy's talk.

Well I decided to take off my proguard 7 filter off today & put a new one on.

The old filter was very dirty and had about 15k miles on it, but the intake tube was clean not a speck of dust inside. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Why didn't you try to clean the old one? Alot cheaper to buy a recharge kit than a new filter. I've had a lot of success in the past.

I agree, the AFE filters have a lifetime warranty.. Why not just keep cleaning it?

I wish I could find my sock. Took it off at the last Dyno Day last October and have not seen it since.

I can get you a new one for a pretty good price.. PM me if interested.

I think I need to get a sock for my Powerstroke.. There are WAY to many bugs in the filter pleats.http://dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

Afternoon Members,

I have been waiting for Jetboater to respond as well, seems he's not going to. AFE was started by a bunch of ex K&N employees, one of their main gripes was the recharge oil was constantly fouling and damaging mass air sensors. There were then, and definetly is now ao reformulated oil so it won't kill the sensors, AFE has done that it doesn't damage the sensors. To my knowledge K&N is still using the old style oil.

The Pro Guard 7 product was designed with agrilculture/diesel guys in mind just because of the amount of dirt that will get thru a 4 layer gauze filter on a diesel. A diesel uses 8-10 times the amount of air a similiar gas engine will doing the same amount of work. Plus it has a suction device (turbo) on it a gas engine doesn't, it will need a better quality filter for stopping dirt, period.

It has never failed me on a Power Stroke (sorry dirty word around here) to have an individual at a show that questions my information on PG7 filters, he always says his K&N (or other brand 4 layer gauze filter) keeps his intake tract perfectly clean. I always ask if he's had the filter in the truck for over 10,000 miles, then I ask him if he wants to bet lunch I can find dirt in his intake system. They always say yes, I go over with a screwdriver and remove the intake tube from the vavle cover mount just before the turbo, grab his hand ask him to extend one finger and drag it thru the hard plastic mount onthe valve cover where the crankcase breather is. Never I say NEVER have I been shwon up (or had to buy lunch for that matter), that finger when rubbed has a very nice little sand box built up in the excess oil that collect in the crankcase breather. The Power Stroke is an easy way to identify this as the crankcase breather is real easy to get to and is right in the path of the in bound air. Same truck with a Pro Guard 7 doesn't have that little sand box???? That is why we sell them and ONLY them to our customers.

How do most of you guys go about cleaning your filters? Soak in dish soap and water for a while or what?

Are you guys talking about the filter cover that can't be cleaned or the filter itself? How can you clean the filter cover? Just rinse it in water?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif
