I was having trouble with a rough idle and lots of white smoke when idling in gear. I added about 1/2 a bottle of Howes and drove non-stop for a couple of tanks. The truck now idles fine and no white smoke.

What was the problem? Do these engines tend to foul up with stop and go, (city), driving?

Thanks in advance.

They shouldnt. A quart of oil or whatever lube people are using is seeming to help with lubing injectors. When was the last time you changed your fuel filter? When did you see the white smoke?

I had the same issue with mine last week , except it wasn't just white smoke . It was chugging too. I changed the fuel filters ( I have a secondary filter ) and all was well . You may have gotten some water in the fuel or bad fuel ,it dont take much. I had both. After changing add 32 oz of Power Service cetane boost and some SAE 30 wt for lube and all should be fine !

"When did you see the white smoke?"

Only when I was at a stoplight and the truck was in gear. If I shifted to neutral then the white smoke would disappear and the idle would smooth out.

I did change out the fuel filter, but that was after it began to run OK again.

Thanks for the replies.
