Ok guys here's the short and sweet of it. I got some fuel from a buddy who had a 100 Gal. tank in the back of his truck last night. This morning I start truck and WIF light comes on and then she starts smoking really blue and running rough. I tried to drain the tank with a siphon but that didn't work. Is there any way I can drain the tank by opening a fuel line or something? Anything to get the fuel out faster and get me to work. Thanks in advance. I'll be here waiting for responses. Nick

Your gonna have to drop the tank or disconnect the line at the cooler and use a pump.

No lift pump I gather?

Oh boy. Dropping the tank doesn't seem like an option for me. I don't have a lift pump either. Guess I'll disconnect at the cooler then. Is there anything I should watch out for? Thanks, Nick

Yeah, your "buddy's" bed mounted tank.

If you've got the Lisle tool for disconnecting the fuel line quick connects, you may be able to disconnect the supply line from the behind the fuel cooler and then carefully supply slight air pressure to the tank filler to slightly pressurize the tank. Take a look at the installation instructions that Nick has fot the second fuel filter installation on www.nicktane.com (http://www.nicktane.com) . That would be my guess for a somewhat quick solution to your issue.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Oh don't worry I will. He wanted to drain his tank cause he's going on vacation and didn't want to leave the fuel in there for 2 weeks. Nick

You'll need the Fuel line disconect tool .

I believe the only way you will get all of the water out is drop the tank. You could just put some Power Shot in it and hope for the best.

I have gotten slugs of water and not dropped my tank. Was it Off Road Fuel?

Thanks Hound. I wish I had that tool. If I can't get them off with a pair of pliars I'll head out and buy one.

No it wasn't Off Road fuel. He was running it in his Stroker without a problem. I got the siphon to work now and it's coming out pretty good. Thanks for the heads up about using the pliers. If it comes down to it I'll head off the the parts store and pick one up. Thanks for the help guys.

Sounds like you got the siphon going, so this may be late. Just wanted to let you know I successfully siphoned all but 3 gallons or so out of a full tank.

I accidentally filled my max with unleaded once and we used a peice of old garden house to siphon it out. After we had inserted the hose as far as we could into the tank we got the siphon going by repeatedly jamming the hose into the tank and quickly pulling a small section back out. A few motions like this and it started siphoning like crazy.

We were draining the gas out into 5 gallon buckets and filled 4 of them before the siphon stopped. Then we opened up the drain valve under the water separator and used the fuel primer to finish getting the remaining gas out.

Good luck...Edited by: lttlfeller

Nick,
Sorry to hear about your dilema..

If you need the QD tool it looks like this ...

Lisle Quick Disconnect removal tool (http://community.webshots.com/photo/67970835/72255850UuKWsX)

If you can't find the Lisle make sure the one you buy has a long collar to depress the tabs in the fitting.

Also, Once you get most of the fuel out of the tank maybe try some Power Service 911 to absorb the water on the bottom of the tank.
(Mackin is Power Shot similar to PS 911?)

Good luck!

I got all the fuel outhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif Man, what a relief. You shoulda seen the amount of crud on the bottom of the tank. I bought some Diesel Fuel Conditioner and added 55L of fuel. She started and idled rough for about 30 secs then the WIF light came on. I drained the water, primed a bit of fuel out and she started right back up again. She runs fine now. New filter was ordered and will be installed tomorrow. Thanks for all the quick replieshttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif. Nick
