I purchased the Bully tailgate lock and installed it in about 20 minutes on my truck. Very pleased with the product; looks stock and works great. The only gripe I have is that the handle bezel does not seem to sit flush with the surface of the tailgate. For the $26 I paid, it is cheap insurance against tailgate theft.

I just installed the same thing!

Im just afraid that a very strong pull would break the mechanism.

Ill be doing a worm drive clamp on the lower joint...

Oh, and my bezel thing dosent sit completly flat either.

I just finished reading your thread about your stolen tail gate. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I'm looking for a way to make it as difficult as I can for anyone to take the tail gate off my truck.

Does the Bully tail gate lock have a multi pin lock cylinder on the lock mechanism? I've seen some lock cylinders that look like they could be easily picked.

I think the SS hose clamp idea on the hinge is good too. I'm thinking about using a CV joint boot clamp instead of the hose clamp. The boot clamp is SS and it requires some bending in the right places to install/remove it. It would be much more difficult to remove than the hose clamp. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

The handle would probably break off before the lock itself breaks. It's not fool-proof security, but it would make it more difficult to take my tailgate that it would be if it didn't have the lock. A metal handle and bezel that "locks" in place would be an awesome upgrade if it were available.

If someone really wants it, theyll get it. I figure that if they can tell its got a lock on it fron the start, theyll just go elsewhere.

My luck, the lock will piss them off, and they will then vandalise the truck. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

There are tailgate locks which are electric and tied to the electric door locks. I read this on another thread. I think JCW sells them.

If you put a worm drive hose clamp on the bottom thing, and a big ass washer on the piece where the straps bolt to (so that the straps cannot be taken off w/o a wrench), you should be fine.

Like I said, if they really want it, theyll get it. But this should surely slow them down.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
