I just installed a Hypertech PP3 on my LB7, set it a level 2 (70HP). Haven't had a real opportunity to test it, but I noticed the engine sounds different. Is that normal?

Typically they will be louder with a programer. I think it has to do with the changes in timing and maybe pilot injection. If you are hearing a whistle that is the turbo. Mine got louder with the Predator.

What kind of different sounds ??

I've run a programmer for over two years and never noticed any different engine sounds in my LB7

A bit louder or "tougher", as if it just can't wait to do some work. And I find the throttle response is a bit quicker as well. Obviously more low end torque - just what I'll need for towing.

What will you be towing ??

You will find as I have, that the extra power is great, I tow a 8,000lb 5th wheel trailer and I now find that the truck no longer shifts down into 4th gear whenever there is a small hill or big headwind. It seems to be happy in 5th gear when towing.

The turbo does spool quicker at lower rpm's and gives the truck that nice added rush of power at lighter throttle pressure.

Level 1 is good to max towing rating , but even though level 2 is only rated for max 6,000 towing, I run level 2 anyway. it's even quicker on the turbo power with the initial green light let's go time. The EGT's stay within a safe level, and max boost on level 2 is @ 22-23lbs

Hope to see you on the road sometime.....Fleetwood, Surrey...area.

the noises your probably noticing is the added timing and that is normal with a programmer or chip. if its just a little bit of added rattle dont be nervous.
