Texas Diesel Guy 07-19-2004, 09:04 PM what do you need to know? this website is probably the best place for answers, and maybe pictures too.
bhhd54 07-19-2004, 09:45 PM everything!
this is my first deisel and I'm cheap and don't trust the idiots in the repair shops around here. I'm having some intermitten problems with stalling and hard starting . but it won't do it at the shops and there charging 75 a pop to tell me that they think it might be the selenoid on the fuel pump that they won't cover on warranty but are more then willing to charge me 1400 to replace it . any ways thats why I wan't a manual with some good clear pictures or illustrations. thanks for the response the sight is great but you guys use a lot of abbreveations that meen nothing to me ,but I'm learning thanks again
quantum mechanic 07-19-2004, 09:57 PM I'd say intermittent stalling is the #1 topic here.
real popular with the 6.5
do you maen the fuel solenoid driver?
The cheapest you can get the solenoid driver for is about $250 and up.
If you're cheap, the only thing to do is replace it yourself.
I'm an advocate for remounting the driver off the pump.
You can buy delphi connectors or cut and splice your stock connector(I did).

Texas Diesel Guy 07-19-2004, 10:02 PM If your looking for a manual that covers the internal workings of the injection pump (IP)then you probably won't find them, covered by copyright, Service Dealer (SD) Item only. Hard starting and stalling can be caused by a wide range of problems. Is the truck harder to start after the engine is hot or after it sits overnight? Does it stall and start right back up or stall and crank for a long time, sometimes not start at all? First thing to check is your lift pump, with the engine idling, open the drain on the top of your filter, right behind the manifold, under the 'Turbo Power' cover. You should see a considerable amount of fuel come out when you open it, if none and the truck dies, then your oil pressure switch is probably bad.
16gaSxS 07-22-2004, 01:45 PM Try alldata.com they have a DIY area you can subscribe for $25 year for first vehical $15 for additionals. This is the service that dealers use, has break downs, trouble shooting procedures, parts numbers with dealer list. It is updated regualr so you have the latest info. It's the best $25 for reference I have spent. Edited by: 16gaSxS
ronniejoe 07-22-2004, 03:41 PM Helm Incorporated. They publish the actual GM shop manuals.
I've also been looking for a shop manual. Helms seems to have something, but at ~$450, it seems rather pricy. And I could not exactly tell which one exactly would be suited to my truck.
All I could aquire yet, is a list of part numbers. It has some drawings on it, but they're only there to tell which part is which one.
BTW, if anyone's looking for a part number, let me know, and I'll look it up.

I got the whole set for my 95 for about $150. You must have gotten a bad price!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
ronniejoe,
can you tell which one exactly you've got? I didn't buy one yet, not for $450, but $150 is a considerable price.
Turbine Doc 07-22-2004, 07:34 PM go to Helm website www.helminc.com (http://www.helminc.com) for new but you can probably find good used on ebay
ronniejoe 07-22-2004, 07:37 PM There are five books in the set that I bought new through the Helm web site. Total price was about $150.Edited by: ronniejoe
Helms has two shop manuals on offer, one for $75, one for $135 --- both are out of stock. Which one should I get?
TDoc, German ebay has about none at any time, of course, and buying from US-users of ebay is not so easy ... :)
