Truck still starts but takes more cranks than I like. Glowplug light comes on and I can hear them cycle for a few seconds. Once it starts it puffs white for maybe 2-3 seconds then runs fine. She puffs light black till she's warm, then I can't make her smoke even if I want to.
(Seems like the injectors quiet down once it's warm , Happen to anyone else?)
I'm looking for easy tricks to get her to start easier before it gets real cold and she won't start at all.
TIA all

My guess would be low compression but it is just a guess and far from educated.

i'd double check all of your glowplugs, if i remember right your hearing the relay, not the plugs themselves.

It'll do that on a colder day if not all of the glow-plugs are working because then it's starting on less than all 8 cylinders. Also your relay might not be cycling as long as it should.

Yep, sounds like you've got some bad glow plugs.
By the way, these engines do quiet down when they warm up. If your fuel injectors aren't the greatest it will be a more noticeable change.

84Sierra I live near Colon and as you know I just put a new used engine in the truck. I may have some good unused glow plugs for you. Also a good used IP if you need it. The parts stores in Fremont carry 60g glow plugs for about $8 a piece.

diesels are alot noisier when cold...all diesels, but the 6.2 moreso because of the high idle circuit on it, mine does it too, but once it warms up, you can hear it kick off high idle and quiet down. i wouldnt go changing injectors just yet, check the glowplugs first

thanks guys I will check em with a test light as soon as I can. Have to work today till Saturday tho so don't know when I'll get to it:rolleyes: .
I'm not too experienced with a Meter, how do you check the resistance? Is a test light check enough?
When I go manual (probably same day I get to the plugs) I just wire a push button to the two studs on the relay to buypass it right?

A test light is actually better than a meter for testing the glow plugs... :)
