I pulled my 24ft enclosed trailer this past weekend for the first time in about a month. I noticed when truck downshifted while I was getting on the interstate between 2500-2700 rpms the engine was noticably louder. Is this normal or do I have some issues? I have not noticed this before but this also was probably the first time it had really downshifted. The truck still seemed like it had plenty of power. The gas mileage on this trip was only 11.5 mpg with the ac on. By the was the truck has approx 1500 miles on it. Thanks

Sounds like the Fan. I wish it wasn't so loud. It always seems to come on when I don't want it too. The Edge sure helps with the power draw though when it does.

Could be the fan, they seem to run more on the LLY's, but also your pilot injection turns off about 2500 RPM, so the engine will be louder even if the fan is not engaged with that turned off.

The pilot injection has to turn off at a certain RPM in order for the engine to continue to meet EPA emission guidelines, if you're wondering why it does it.

edit info:

The LB7 also has pilot injection if you're running one of those engines rather than the LLY...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gifEdited by: Zeeb

Not trying to be a smart aleck but doesnt any engine get louder when you rev it higher? U get great "GAS" mileage for a dieselhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
