This may sound strange to you guys, and it does to me also, but after having my truck for almost 3 months it just clicked that i have a 2 color interior. The seats, doors, dash, floor and console are dark grey or charcoal. But the headliner, sun visors and overhead console are tan, is this normal, or did they screw up. TIA.

Mines the same and I also asked the same question!

It's normal.

03 went that way IIRC.

When we were car shopping at the VW dealership, I asked why their cars were like that. The salesman's reply was that the reason they do that is because a lighter colored roof makes it feel more roomy. Basically you will feel more claustrophobic with a dark roof. I thought he was BSing us because he didn't really know but he showed us a car with a dark roof and it definitely felt more confined.

That was my thought, but I didn't want to say it because I thought it sounded stupid. Oh well, I guess there's something to be said for being stupid. Heh heh.

My headliner and visors are Light Gray as oppose to Charcoal which is the interior color.

Tan ?

Someone needs to post a pic does it look as bad as it sounds?

Mac,

If you dwell on it, you could probably say, "that doesn't look like it goes together," but you don't really notice it that much. It took me a while to even notice it (probalby a month or so), but I don't think it looks bad. Just different.

I agree, it looks "different". Can't say that it would be my first choice, but it's acceptable.

I thought they did it as another cost savings initiative . . .

As far as I know, almost all of the 2003 and 2004 trucks with the dark or tan interiors have a Shale headliner. I think there are some of the light pewter interiors that have a light grey headliner. I like the lighter overhead color.

I thought the same thing as was going to comment on it. But really, how much would they really save? I doubt the shale die is any cheaper then any other color. And the amount of headliners that GM would go through in a year, I can't imagine it would cost anymore to have 3 different colors made.

Maybe just the fact that they only have 1 color to inventory??? 2 less SKU's, less warehouse space needed, etc. If they reduced costs by eliminating the lighted hood (again, something that in & of itself seems very inexpensive), who knows what the costs of multiple color headliners would be . . . . just a buck or 2 times that many trucks could add up pretty fast . . .

Not to mention the fact that the guy putting the thing together only has to grab one of one parts out of the bin and put it in, instead of picking between a couple of colors. . . sounds derogatory almost, it isn't meant to be, my Dad put these things together for 30 years, and worked hard doing it. My point is that T.P.N. is right on the money. Most guys that sell things know it, too. If you only carry one product, all your prices are lower, if you carry two, they go up, the more you have the more expensive it is to keep stock, etc.

One color, one low price, lower sticker price. Well, I guess that last part didn't make it, but it sounds good, huh?

All headliners are one color.... Shale. That color takes on the interior color a bit from the reflected light, so the dark gray seats turn it kind of gray, the neutral seats turn it more tannish. One color really simplifies the plants just like TPN said. There is not a lot of room in our plants and the less sequencing that is done the better (one person can sequence both carpets and headliners for example). The only real sequencing needs to be the cab style.

You guys know more than you think! Your good!

Who said I didn't think I knew !!! http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Just kidding . . . Actually, we have an interest in a manufacturing facility & are somewhat familiar with the manufacturing processes, etc. The whole manufacturing process is a science that I NEVER thought was so complicated or that there are such in depth extensive certifications (CPIM, CFPIM, etc) . . . . and obviously, the more parts, the more complication. What seems like a fairly simple process is actually more detailed & complicated than I ever thought . . . . and we were only manufacturing rulers & yardsticks . . . . can't imagine what it's like for cars & trucks!!!
