Hello, my 04 alli has developed a problem at 4500 miles.....after sitting in the the driveway for 48 hrs +, it won't firmly engage in reverse to back out...it will feel like it is in neutral for 30-45 seconds, then it will slowly /softly engage. If it sets just overnight or just for a few hours all is OK....any thoughts or comments...easy fix, or a dreaded trip to the stealer. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

It very well be converter drain back . Thought GM had it all worked out ,some use to do it sitting over night.
Try putting it in neutral next time before rolling when it sits for a couple days.
How long did you let it warm prior to moving?

Mac is right. I thought they corrected this also. Transgo addresses this in their shift kit. Lately, I have been doing the mods on late model Duramaxes and still changed the springs that address this problem while thinking it is not needed. Glad I went with gut instinct.

My '04 is doing it as well. They didn't fix it at far as I'm concerned. I normally just let it idle in neutral for awhile and all is well. Is this harming anything, or is it something I can just deal with?

just got my tranny done with suncoast 3 kit and after sitting overnite and put in rev. same problem but only for a few seconds and then locks up hard. is this hurting anything? eric said there was a problem in 2 valves he had to hand sand/polish??? maybe he can clear up what they are. i checked fluid level and its good. almost acts like a stall converter. steve

Valves should not be sanded. When you sand a valve you cant help but round the sharp edges on the end of the valve which are there for pushing grit out of the valve bore. Rounded edges allow grit to jam the valve.

mike they may not be valves, i just know he said something about not fitting/ sticking in valve body. he sanded something until they slid smoothly. hope he chimes in.

Apparently there is ANOTHER fix for the dreaded i"s it in or out of gear when I pull up to a stop light". Front pump issues AGAIN. Warranty may not cover it.

Mine just did this not engaging this morning as well. It only sat for like 30 hrs or so. In fact even after it engaged and drove it a few miles the shifting still felt real weird. I hope with only 7K miles on it, this is not a glimpse of things to come..
