Well saturday morning I was driving along and lost power. Looked in the mirror and noticed lots of white smoke. I pulled over and looked under the truck to see oil pouring out of the bottom of my motor. I limped to a service plaza and as I was exiting I lost oil pressure and poof, the truck died. It still starts but idles extremely rough. I ran the codes and had a turbo overboost code, mass air flow code, and a turbo sensor a code. We will be pulling the motor tomorrow. Just thought I would see what peoples opinion was.

Have you looked at the dipstick?

a guy i know had this exact same thing happen a week ago or so
got a new turbo & motor is being tore down as we speak no damages so far apperently a piece in the turbo killed the oil pressure

Well a quick update. We haven't got the motor out yet but I started it to check the codes again and we have crank case pressure blowing out the oil filler. I should have the motor out and apart tomorrow.

No. This one had only a small chip and a 4" exhaust for the bulk of its 280,000+ life. I guess they can't last forever.):h

So I'm guessing the motor is done for?

does this mean that a duramax's estimated life is ~300k?

just curious how many hours were on this truck? and how many were on your dads when it went?

Guys, we tow very hard and heavy 60+% of the time. We also let our trucks idle all night long a couple of nights a week on the average. We also run chips doing all this. To get 300,000 miles out of these motors under these conditions to me is spectacular! If we were a little "easier"):h on them I think they would go 500,000 miles no problem.;)

they tow just about anything including my duramax with a trailer hooked to it (on their trailer) with another camper sitting on my trailer :)

I had a code telling me there was a turbo overboost as well. What are the implications of this happening and why/how does it happen?

Well here's the latest. #6 piston had a crack. Balance rates showed us #6 was the problem. It scratched the cylinder to the point it will need to be bored and/or sleeved before it can be reassembled.

The pistons will be tested in hopes of finding what caused it. Maybe an injector stuck. We may never know. So far the rest of the motor looks to be in good shape.

why number 6?whats going on with all the #6 failures.maybe time to get a bd manifold.
