Here is a good Intro to UOA (http://theoildrop.server101.com/whatisoilanalysis.htm) at www.BobIsTheOilGuy.com (http://www.BobIsTheOilGuy.com)
Also for a new Duramax it's not uncommon for Copper and Silicon to run high for a while. Some Si leaches from the Silicone Gasket sealers and the oil cooler can leach some copper.

Something you may find useful as far as where the elements come from : http://www.blackstone-labs.com/gasoline_diesel_report_expl.html
Many of the elements are actually part of the additive package which varies depending on brand and type of oil used.
Overall it looks like the wear metals are pretty good for your report, but a single UOA report doesn't say as much as looking at a trend of UOAs over time for a particular engine.
How many miles on the oil? What brand of oil? Any UOA reports prior to this one? How many oil changes prior to this one?Edited by: Hound

Hound:
Brand of oil: Amsoil 15w-40 marine Synthetic, all year, my 2002 now has 19,700 miles, I switched to 15w-40 marine syn at 5,000 miles, evey 5,500 to 6,000 miles it's changed, I buy it as a dealer ( like a-lot of others do ) so it's a bit cheaper.I have 3 friends / co-workers that have used Amsoil for over 10 - 13 years, and have had excellent longetivity above 150K miles. This was my first analysis, will do another in 12K miles. This dmax gets used on the weekends and on trips, I'm trying to keep it 15 years. Thanks for your info!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Clap.gif
Go to www.polarislabs1.com (http://www.polarislabs1.com) they have several tech bulletins on how to read reports.
