: How to make my LB7 into an 11 second rocket...
JhnZ71 11-19-2006, 11:49 PM Ok,
Im ready to throw down cash, I want an 11 or low 12 second truck. I was gonna start with an extreme ATS tranny, there are only a few contingencies...
1. As close to pure #2 if possible (Preferably no giggle gas)
2. Truck has to still be relitavely streetable
What do I need to do...
Oooh. This should be fun to watch.
Max Power 11-20-2006, 12:00 AM Talk to McRat. He has a 650hp recipe that should get you into the 11's.
samfraser 11-20-2006, 12:03 AM bobo would also have some helpful advice, i know he has some wicked streetable tunes.
ecc_33 11-20-2006, 12:13 AM Mcrat has a "kit" i do believe on his forum www.mcratracing.com he is also a vendor here... the kit should put you right at 650 to the wheels and very close to 11's or more!

McRat...what does $6300 get someone with a stock truck?

A transmission. Then you still need to add all the go fast stuff ;)

Beat me to it. LOL

McRat 11-20-2006, 06:50 PM Can't discuss pricing in a technical thread, board rules. The 650 Kit requires you to have a well-built trans, a 4" exhaust, and a lack of common sense. Everything else is included. Common sense remover can be often be found at your local liquor store.

Diesel Tech 11-20-2006, 07:21 PM The only issue with High Hp is that most want it to be street-able and last........... that just does not happen. If you want the speed then expect it to break because it is going to do it. What's needed to go into the 11 is a good cool day, good traction and about 600RwHp. So the price you spend is for what parts you have and what you need to add. Transmission upgrade, turbo upgrade, CP3 upgrade, Fuel system upgrade will get the engine power but your also setting the engine on a very short fuse. So if you want it to live you now need to add a engine rebuild with upgraded rods, pistons and valve spring at least. So now that you've handled the engine you need to take care of the traction issue with suspension modifications and tires. All said and done you going to spend in the 10K price range on the very least if you do it yourself without engine upgrades to 23K if you have it done with engine upgrades. Now how much you want to do?

When I was a kid the auto parts store that we all got our parts from had a sign over the counter:
SPEED COSTS MONEY HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO
Then there's the one, If they wanted you to hold onto money they would put handles on it.):h Good luck on your speed quest
McRat 11-21-2006, 01:59 AM If 600hp is a guarantee for 11's, perhaps a "detuned" version of the #2 only systems might be the key. So far we have had no failures on the trucks I've done at ~650hp with stock internals.
The number of late model truck owners who are willing to dump $20,000 into their engines is small, and many cannot have their truck down for the 1-2 months it takes to get it built.
The key will be in tuning and part selection that will give the maximum life to the stock internals yet still yield the HP to be competitive.
But there will never be any guarantees. Even the $20k engines aren't immune to failure, and anyone pretending that they can build a bullet-proof dmax is kidding themselves. There is no such thing in the gas world, the Cummins world, nor the dmax world. Essentially the internal parts are improving your odds, not eliminating all risk.
But the bigger issue is that it's not just engine failure that is of concern. Transmissions, even with the best parts can fail at extreme power. Driveshafts, axles, mounts, etc, etc, will all fail sooner. And even if you spend $100,000 upgrading everything you can, there will always be the weakest link in the system.
You are best off leaving your truck stock. I wish I was smart enough to realize that. But in lieu of that wisdom, perhaps it is best to look around and see what is working, and what is not. Try to mimic the setups that have the good track records, and cross your fingers.
And toes.
:D
Micheal Tomac 11-23-2006, 09:13 PM You don't need a built motor to run high 11's/low 12's all day long. You do need the following upgrades: tuning, trans, turbo, head studs, injectors, twin CP3 pumps, lift pump, intake, exhaust, tierod sleeves, spring clamps & shocks.
