Well I was really busy lately and let my filters slide. When I finally replaced them I had over 15k miles with H2 tires add 12.8% to that number. I didnt take pictures but will detail their condition here.

The OEM filter had zero rust. It was lightly discolored a dark gray over 15% of its surface. I'd say it could have gone another 15k miles easily.

The cat (nictane) was 100% discolored with a darker gray almost black over 95% of its surface. Id say it was due to be replaced. The cat had a small dime sized rust spot in the bottom.

Neither filter was rusty on the change before this. I think that my running out of 405 and using nothing for 2 tanks then using my 409 (winter) additive for about 10 tanks was the cause of the rust in the cat.

All in all I was really impressed with the filters and additive. The oem looked almost new. The cat is doing its job.

As a reminder my neighbor who uses the case of standandyne I gave him had rust in both filters, a lot of rust. He fills up at the same station I do (union 76 high volume). Primrose 405 is a great additive from what I can tell.

Thanks for the info. FWIW, I bought a case
(24 12oz bottles) of the PowerMaster 405
directly from Primrose Oil Company here
in Dallas for ~$105 (tax included) out the
door....

Their website is http://www.primrose.com/Default.htm

PC - you had very similar results to mine.. i've never had any rust running 405, but the non-405 friends i have seem to have as much rust as you've described.. the 405 definately helps.

PC,

Thanks for the info. But I'm having trouble with one part of your post. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Embarrased.gif

You of all people didn't take pictures? http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif

Forgive my ignorance...and if this has already been discussed...but is the rust in the filter related to the additive de-mulsify/emulsify thing? Meaning the emulsifying additive surrounds the water and takes it through the system while the de-mulsify repels the water and lets it sit in the bottom of the filter.

"Meaning the emulsifying additive surrounds the water and takes it through the system while the de-mulsify repels the water and lets it sit in the bottom of the filter".

Yes......

It was George that posted about this and said he would never run an additive that made water drop out of the fuel. Where is it going to go? It will sit in contact with metal and rust. I want to burn it through the system in tiny amounts.

It seems thats what its doing. I havent had one single problem with this additive.

And what can I say about the cat filter that isnt good. That filter rocks. It filtered so well that my oem after 15k + miles looked almost new. It was only silghtly discolored (light gray) over maybe 15% of the paper.

I'll bet you could put 40K on the oem with the cat's being replaced at 10K.

Thanks ....

I didnt see the need (or want to get flamed) for posting problems my truck is having (many many problems).

Lets just say Monday it goes in for 20 (No kidding) different issues that are wrong with it.
