Any body out there install the triple train horns offered by PMT? If so did you use the factory air tank on the truck?

I have a 5 horn blaster from a frieght train....it made my tow behind air compressor go up in rpm....175cfm type....so i will need mad air to get a 5 second shot....it is a gamble....you should do what I am going to do..tie it in to the tank at biggest port..upsize to horn with ball valve and hit it to see....I already know I will be needing a airtank as big as I can find for under the truck...and it will not last long judging from the step up in big compressor...also I am going to use my air ride compressor from start.....but I think i will be uping that also....there are also train valves for feathering of air....I am putting the valve at center console side..

I use the triple air horns. I did not order the truck with the factory aircompressor or tank. I went over to ebay and bought a 5 gallon tank and a Viair compressor. I can run my horns at 150 PSI and added aftermarket air-ride seats. The airhorns are rated at 179DB....and were a PITA to find a mounting place.....even on a big ole Kodiak. I ended up opting for a location behind the front bumper, and used the original wiring for the electric stocker, for activating the solenoid on the airhorns.

I can tell you this.....Say you are sitting behind a person yaking on the cell phone while waitng for the light to turn green....after the light turns green, they are so engrossed in the conversation, that they fail to notice that the light had changed. A "gentle" reminder, via the train horns, has caused them to drop their cell and pay ALOT more attention to their real objective. DRIVING!

Please bear in mind, that I do not lay on the horns at the drop of the hat. I do give them a 5-10 second window of lesiure before a quick blip of the horns brings them back to reality. Only have had to do this 2-3 times a year.

It will get the semi trucks drifting into my lane a "heads up" as to my location too.

Use them with good judgement. As loud as they are....they might attract the wrong kind of attention.

The stock air comp. and tank are not big enough to suppy air to a train horn. I went to E-Bay and got a 5 gal tank and a comp there. I put the horns behind the front bumper also. Just a short blast will get the response you are looking for. I have a Hauler bed so I put the air comp. in front of the side mounted tool box and boxed that area in to keep the air comp. out of the weather without taking any space from the tool box, (I need alot of room for all my junk). Also I put an air quick disconnect on the front and back of the bed so I can run my impact wrench for changing a tire or just to air one up.

I bought the triple horns from www.hornblasters.com
Here is a link to the exact horn: http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?item=CHR3

They are very loud, and they come with an electric air valve. Just wire it to a switch. Only $219. I mounted mine on the plate that is bolted to the back side of the stock side step. Driver's side directly under the back door. It is right behind the stock compressor, so I only needed like 36" of air line. The stock compressor will blow them full blast for 6-8 seconds, then they start falling off. Try the stock compressor before you blow the wadd on a second one. IMHO

Here is a little info on the compressor for your horns and air tank, I have a very close friend who is a master with air ride suspension etc. I have a 3 trunk horn set up with a 5 Gal tank that I also put a quick release 1/4" fitting on to run an air hose for tire inflation, air tools etc.
The OE compressors on the Kodiak for air ride and the air suspension might have the ability to run 100-150psi however they are not rated 100% duty cycle. That 125psi (lets say) is at 33% duty cycle. Which means the compressor is not ment to run all the time and supply the 125psi 100% of the time, in the long run this will kill your compressor. I bought a Viair compressor that will supply the tank with up to 150PSI with 100% duty cycle, running off an 80-120psi switch, turns on when tank pressure drops to 80 psi and inflates to 120psi. I found the compressor on ebay from a great dealer in FL, got the 5 Gal tank and the compressor shipped for about $230. Add $25 for the pressure switch. I picked up my set of horns awhile back a truck stop that had them on sale, the same ones are now $299 when I saw them on Mon at the Petro on I70 in Mo at exit 28 but I think you can find them cheaper.
I mounted my compressor on the back side of the drivers storage compartment under the truck and the tank on the platform where the other air tank is below the drivers side step. As for the horns, the only place I could find to put them was on the passenger side rear under the step on the blank platform, facing backwards so water isn't run into the trumpets. I have thought about trying to move them up front somewhere and pointing them down, which can be even louder, but as previously stated for a big truck space can be tight. They are quite loud! I have them on a seperate momentary switch that have deemed the "AH" switch Censored horn as I call it ;) People on the phone, cut you off etc, you get the idea.

LOL, I dont have triples but doubles. They are plenty loud. I had a lady get off the road and be all pissed at me cause I chirped them at her. Like it was my fault she was asleep at the signal. (sat there for a good 15 seconds)

Poor dude next to us prob had a long day at work in his big lifted for, he just about jumped out the driver side window. We both kinda laughed at it. :)

I installed the Cannon Ball Express horns. Used the Link Air System to power them. I don't have to sound them very long to get attention, so not a big drain on the Air System.

Here's a link to the Horns. I definitely recommend these.

I run a double air horn set up.It's fed off the compressor that supplies air to my air seats which is located under the cab on the drivers side. It's really, really loud and it works great.

FYI: The horn I posted about above:
http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?item=CHR3
Is the same exact horn that WA3PNT posted about above:
http://www.wolo-mfg.com/truck.htm

The box actually said Cannon Ball Express when it came in the mail. Much less money at the link I provided. All these guys do is sell horns. They buy in MAJOR bulk to get good prices. Like WA3PNT posted above, this thing is LOUD. The best bang for the buck.
