Is it okay to run the LB7 fuel filter on the LLY engine?

I don't know but I wouldn't use the lb7 filter for the slight difference in price due to warranty issues.

It's safe. They are absolutely identicle inside. The LLY filter has a bigger can, that's it. There is no advantage at all to useing the LLY filter. You will not have warranty issues.

Correct me if I'm wrong but there was talk a while back that the LLY filter was a 2 micron filter and the LB7 was not. I need to search. My local stealerships (2) had never sold a LLY filter, they had to order it. Bottom line I went with a LLY filter that way I know it the proper one!

As Max said, the only difference between the two filters is the length. The Racor engineers I spoke with were at a loss to explain why the change, apparently made at GM's behest.

The mounting area, filter media, design, everything but the extra 3/4 inch length of the LLY filter is the same.

So in answer to your question, both filters are rated at 2 micron according to accepted industry standards. That's where all the discussion comes in, whether or not those standards by which Racor claims 2 micron effiency, are adequate to do the job.

Go ahead and do a few searches and you'll find lots of discussion about filters, lubricity and refining standards regarding diesel fuel in this Country. Lots of discussion...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

Unless GM says specifically that they can be interchanged....its to your benefit not to risk it in my opinion. I have seen warranty denied for more ridiculous things.

How hard is to change the fuel filter, and where can you get one at a fair price?

I have opened the LB7 filter and the LLY filter. Both have the same amount of pleats (85) but the LLY is 1/2" longer. Now I think I know why the change. I had a Power Stroke fuel filter setting here and it is just like the LLY filter in lenght and number of pleats. So I bet they changed the LLY just so they would not have to manufacture 2 different filters. Also we have sent and LLY and the LB7 filter off to be looked at under an electronic microscope. This will also tell if its the same media.

By the way I have the LB7 filter on my neww LLY and I'm not worried at all about warranty.
