i have 2002 duramax with 60,000 miles on it. the water pump has begun leaking out of the weep hole when the truck is shut off. i just noticed it today (saturday) and cannot find a pump at the parts stores. it looks like it will have to come from the dealer. is the water pump covered under the engine warranty?
if it is not covered under warranty, how is the switch? it looks pretty straight forward. is there anything to look out for if i do the swap myself?
thanks, isudiesel

I had the same problem last week, water pump was leaking out of the weep hole as well. Took her to the dealer and they took care of it in a couple of days. I am not sure if it was covered under warranty or not b/c I believe they used my extended warranty(GMPP) that I bought with the truck.
Anyway I got to speak with the tech (Robert Miller/handle= RocketsDmax)afterwards and he said that the hardest part was gaining access to a bolt behind the harmonic balancer. I also got a new bottom radiator hose (thanks Mike L http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Hug.gif)and insisted on replacing it.
Good luck

Mine did the same at 25,000 miles.

I stopped at the dealership this morning. They were not sure if the water pump was covered under the engines warranty. They are going to order the pump and give me a call when they find out.
In the 5 volume service manual, it says that you need to take the fan and balancer off to remove the water pump. Does anyone know if this is necessary? Maybe that is what Diesel 5's tech was referring to. I wonder if they took the fan and balancer off or if they wiggled it out with them in place.
By the way, they priced the pump and gaskets at $220.

Thanks for the information. I wish I would have asked before I had the dealer get the pump ordered.
DmaxalliTech, do you have most of your products listed on hand. I was just wondering about the timing of receiving products if I have any problems in the future.
Thanks

90% of the items are gettable quickly. Some like the painted door handles and such must be ordered as needed.
Also, some fast moving items I have a hard time keeping in stock, lately, its Fumoto valves and CB Brackets
