: Check Engine Oil Pressure Message?
NeilW 07-17-2004, 02:42 PM I have got a "Check Engine Oil Pressure Light" on the message center the last two times I started my truck after letting it sit all night. I watched the oil pressure gauge this morning and the truck started the light came on the then the oil pressure went right up to 80 or so with about a 5 second delay.
My truck is an 01' with about 66k miles on it. 90hp juice and pretty much stock other than tires.
Anyone ever seen this? What is the problem?
Thanks, Neil
GMC-2002-Dmax 07-17-2004, 04:05 PM Could just be the sending unit.......

Blinky 07-17-2004, 07:06 PM Mine did it a couple of times...... Haven't seen it for about 10,000 miles tho....
Never did have it checked out...
chevmeister 07-17-2004, 10:06 PM i had "check engine oil level" and it was dead on the mark. Had me scared cause im already down one vehicle. went away and didnt come back since?
PoolRebel 07-17-2004, 11:35 PM Mine has been doing the same thing for a few mounths now. At first I thought it was because I parked on a hill in my drive way but then I started to notice it was doing it at ever start up no matter what the grade I was parked on. I still haven't had it checked though.
rocksam 07-17-2004, 11:49 PM are you guys using a different oil filter than spec? i thought about using a larger one that i heard about here but some one said it doesn't have a check valve to prevent drain back. sounds like what you are experiencing. filter draining and taking to long to refill when you restart. i would do an oil and filter change with a stock filter and see if it goes away. if oil is new you could just change the filter.
Mackin 07-18-2004, 10:00 AM Mine has never done that even when I've changed my Erl and you have that what seems forever delay in Oil Pressure to lift . http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
Like Rocksam says oil and filters which are you using?

chevmeister 07-18-2004, 11:06 AM current oil filter is from local dealer. next one gonna be a dmaxallitech. as far as oil its 15 w 40 thats about as much as i know i run it in all my macks. believe its shell rotella, delivered bulk at my buddies shop
NeilW 07-18-2004, 11:11 AM I have been using Rotella as recommended and a standard wix filter I believe.
I am planning on changing the oil and see if I still get the message.
tophog 07-19-2004, 12:17 AM I've had the "Check Engine Oil Level" DIC msg for about 30 seconds after starting ... for several months now. Haven't had it checked out as I know oil is on the mark. Have run Balwin filters since first change. Guess I'll try another filter to see if the Baldwin is the culprit but would think others using Baldwins would have the same problem?
using Delo 400 Edited by: tophog
2fast2 07-19-2004, 06:24 AM I have the Baldwin oil filter in my 2003 and haven't experienced this problem. I'm at 16K miles now.
SpoolinTurbo 07-19-2004, 06:26 AM I had the check oil level message as well.
Took it to the dealer, they said it was a bad sender and they replaced it at my convenience...
Strip the toys, bring her in, if it's under warranty. If everything reads fine on the gauge and on the stick, chances are it's the sender and that's usually an easy fix. Only thing that really pissed me off is that I had just done an oil change when it happened. They drop the pan and change the oil when they do the level sender.
Silver Bullet 12-09-2004, 01:56 PM My "Check Engine Oil Pressure" message has started coming up recently in the message center. It only stays on just long enough to read the message if you are looking at the message center when it comes up. I have not done anything differently than I have done for the last 50K miles...I turned 95K miles yesterday.
Any ideas?
arguy 12-09-2004, 08:23 PM Mine does the same thing, but only if I let it sit for more than 4 or 5 days. I assumed it was the filter leaking back into the pan. Pressure comes up immediately. I don't see much of an issue. Truck has 152,000 miles. :ro)
Diesel Power 12-09-2004, 10:06 PM mine does it, but ONLY after changing oil.. otherwise it doesn't matter how long she sits unused, i never see it.
Diesel Dragon 12-09-2004, 10:11 PM Mine was doing it while I was running down the road
Ding-Ding "Low Oil Pressure"
Would last for a couple of minutes then go back to normal
Turned out to be the sending unit.
Dealer changed it and now the pressure is a little higher at speed than before.
65 psi :)
Silver Bullet 12-10-2004, 10:56 AM Sounds like it is probably nothing to worry about. Just out of curiosity...where is the sending unit located and is it easy to replace? Anyone the part number for the sending unit? Thanks.
antz01ta 12-10-2004, 11:44 AM i had this when i ran a fram filter with no drainback valve, i switched to a wix and now all is good.
MaxRock 12-10-2004, 02:03 PM I have been runnig the baldwin filter from JK and Delvac 1300 with no problems. Truck has 103k.
MaxRock
Silver Bullet 12-10-2004, 09:12 PM hhhhhhmmmmmm...maybe my filter has a drainback value problem b/c this has only shown up since my last oil change...
