My touch screen nav unit makes a "chirping" noise when it reads the dvd. It is driving me crazy. Does anyone have any ideas for killing the bird or squirrel in it?

Sounds like (No pun intended) you may have an issue with the drive motor. Second possibility is the dvd is optical read, and it is possible the chirping is coming from the mechanics that move the reader back and forth. Try playing a cd and see what the results are. If it chirps all the time, it's the drive motor (or it's mechanism). If the chirp stops, then it's the reader, since the reader would only move a fraction of a fraction of inch to read the tracks on the cd while playing.

Unfortunately, I doubt whether there is anything you could do in either case.

On re-thinking this, if the noise stops when playing a cd, you could also have a warped map dvd. Try a different one - especially if you are using a "back up copy" (wink wink). A warped or unbalanced dvd could cause the noise you're describing.
