: Throttle disabled?

This morning on my way to work, the throttle stopped working. I had just turned the second corner from my house (just around the block) and when I stepped on the throttle....nothing....just idling.

Sooooo.. I idle back around the block to my house, shut it off, let it sit for a minute, restart, and all is fine. Drive to work, no more problem.

Can someone tell me what went on here? I can see situations where this would be very dangerous, ie. turning left.

That truck has drive by wire. There is no direct connection between pedal and injector pumps. Ah, the wonders of it huh? A dealer should be able to fix that quickly as obviously, something as failed in the control circuit. GM has been using drive by wire for a while now. My 2000 OBS K3500 gasser is one of the last models built that your foot is still "hooked" directly to throttle control.

Dealer service says they don't know of any reason the throttle would be disabled, so I'm taking it in at least to get it documented that there was a problem.

Wise idea and and would not bring it back until they atleast change or do something to it either. The problem that you experiance is something that has always troubled me in the back of my mind about the "drive by wire" concept. YEs it is true that a lot of modern aircraft fly that way but they have backup systems to it to that are not present for cost reasons in a vehical.

Well, dealer looked it over and found a weak channel on the throttle sender. Found a pin in the connecter not fully inserted. Fixed that, scanner showed good on all four channels. Let's hope that is all it was.

mustbnutz,

Is your avatar a pic of some star in the galaxy, or is that a dolphin's eye? Just curious.

It's the standard dragon eye until I can get something else.

Well, the problem is back. Same situation (first start of the day) and the same location even. Calling the dealer again Monday.

Make sure they change something! There is no excuse for a repeat like that. It would not be fun in the middle of a intersection!

Had a similar problem with mine when I put the first Juice box on it, years ago. Got an updated Juice and never had it happen again. You don't list a box but I was just wondering...

Just for grins, check that all pins are seated in the milti-wire connectors on the engine, one for the engine other for tranny, drivers side on top of engine, about as big as a fist. It's where the Juice plugs in. Grabbing at straws here, but intermitent electrical problems can be a PITA.

They are replacing the throttle pedal assembly today, should have it back tomorrow.

No box on it yet. Not long though.

Pedal assembly is replaced, definitely feels smoother than before. We'll see if that does the trick.

I have an '02 and have for about a year had mine in several times to get it figured out. They have replace the TPS twice, the ECM once. Last time, the codes indicated an "open circuit". Next trip out, 250 miles and quit working 4 times. Made sure I had cruise control turned off and it worked fine for the next 600 miles getting home. I'm begining to wonder if cruise related, but not sure.
