Every time I hit a gravel road at slow speeds the rear end will lock up and bounce the whole truck around until I make ut up a little incline. Is this normal?
I have been getting in the habit of putting in 4x4 just so I can avoid the shutters.
What can I do to minimize this bouncy truck? More weight in the rear help? New shocks? It sure would be nice to have a selectable locker...I am guessing they are not available for these rear ends yet.

I believe the rear locks at under 25 mph; a little weight in the back, some new shocks and driving faster will all help.

G 80 will try to lock up @ about 24 to 26 MPH, So drive above or below that speed. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

I live at the end of a mile long two track road. The 2500HD is not the best woods truck I have owned. Tire air pressure is a big factor also. I have two ruts in the gravel going into the garage from the locker instead of the one I got from my G30 van. My Tacoma with 27lbs in the tires is a lot better. I don't know how low you could go with the stock tire pressure but some is coming out in the winter when I am not towing.

I do not see how the G80 would be causing your problem, but springs that were designed to make soccer Mom`s happy with the soft ride would.
I have 7 leaf springs on each side and Air Lift super duty air bags (The 5000# ones) and I never have a problem with wheel hop.

I have a stock 2004.5 LLY, LT, D/A, CC/LB. I get wheel hop on a gravels, sand or wet grass. I need to put it in four-wheel drive to stop the wheel hop.
Yesterday I had 6,000 lbs. of top soil in my dump trailer, while I was pulling away from the load point heading to the scales. I suffered sever wheel hop as I tried to start the load. I had to engage 4-wheel drive to move in the sand without wheel hop. On the scale Gross weight was 16,600 lbs.
Once off the scales and on hard surface, the truck handled the load effortless.

Running in sand in two wheel drive is the only short coming of my locker. I just put it in 4X4 and all is well. I spin the tires on the gravel roads when taking off due to a lot of torque. I always put it in 4X4 if I want to run over 25 or so. Later! Frank http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/smiley2.gif
