1200 miles and we lost something in the engine. First check engine light came on, then bucking, blowing smoke, no turbo whine. Truck wouldn't even accelerate up to 55 on flat ground, had to "CREAP" it up to speed to get it home. Oil smells like diesel bad. Going to the dealer on a flatbed tomorrow. Truck has been babied, NO engine mods, only a K&N airfilter. This is our "cadillac truck" (2004 2500HD crew cab, short box, duramax/allison) so we do NO towing etc, the old K2500/454/4x4(1991/3.73's/14 or so mpg) hauls hay/saw dust for the horses, etc. Was breaking it in slow. (I have a car with 153,000 miles that doesn't burn a bit of oil, still has high compression and still gets 31 mpg, day after day, so we do know how to break in a motor) The first tank of diesel we checked did 21 mpg(Marathon), the 2nd 14(BP), the 3rd we had put back in Marathon and were back to 16, but the mileage loss was starting to show something going wrong. I have seen other posts from folks having similar issues. Will keep all informed as to cause and outcome.

Very sorry to hear that. May be an injector. Hope they get it fixed...

Turned out to be a selenoid on the Turbo. Factory tech told our service tech that they(selenoid) either work or fail within first 1000 to 1500 miles. The part that was "stuck" was not allowing the engine to get enough air, creating an overly rich condition, hence the smell of diesel, smoke, etc.
Truck is fixed now and works great.
I have read on this and other forums that a lot of folks have issues with dealers. I have only good things to say about the Chevy place in Orrville, Ohio. This is the 4th vehicle we have bought there. 3 trucks & 1 car. Lots to be said for small town courtesy, professionalism, etc.
Shop the small guy and keep them in business :-) that is applicable to all kinds of businesses.
I will try and get pics to share. 1 really great item I did get from dealer was a "bedrug". This bedliner is really slick. With the cap on the truck, the bed is just like a carpetted trunk.

As a two day owner I can sympathize. Glad everything turned out well. Being a first time diesel owner- it’s all a little overwhelming at first. Anyway- I love the truck- and I look forward to many great miles with this truck. Now it’s time to buy and put in all the mods- LOL
