Need to mount CB radio in my Serria 2500HD any help

I really hate to get that "retro" but I've considered the same thing, since I pull a 5th wheel. It helps in the convoys and on those long interstate passes with the truckers.

It looks to me like the only place to put it will be on the trans hump in the floor. We'd have to get a bracket long enough to keep it from making contact with the floor so it wouldn't get wet with a spilled drink or wet feet.

If you've got any ideas lets bounce em around.

Do a search here for CB. Has been discussed a few times before, lots of pictures and ideas.

Also it would help to know what the chasis size is or make and model of the radio that you're looking at. That will help with where you can or cannot mount the thing.

Lemme go take a picture and post it up where I have mine.

If you have the same overhead as me you could try this...

This is where it is now. Since I have bench seats, I'm going to be getting a console from a place here in town that does all the equipment setup for the police cars, trucks, and the like. The console is a contoured plate mount that pretty much takes up from the ashtray south. I'll see if I can find a picture.Edited by: SpoolinTurbo

I purchased a Steel Horse overhead shelf and mounted my CB, Scanner, and Edge Monitor on it. Works great. I have a man tranny so there is no room to mount on the hump.

I recommend you toss out your CB and get an ICOM 706 and program it for the CB band. These have a remote faceplate. I mounted mine on a board on the floor of the back seat of my extended cab. The faceplate I mounted on the dash--I'll post a picture later.

They are very sensitive radio, so you have to put the attenuator or else, if a trucker running 700 watts keys up next to you, your will blow a pin diode and lose your transmit. Or if you are alone in the desert, you can turn on a preamplifier and pull up the weak signals.

Power output is variable from 2 to 100 watts. The display is big and bright. You can program 100 frequencies and it works on the CB modes--AM, and SSB upper and lower, as well as FM.

There are three version of this radio. IC-706, IC-706MKII, IC-706-MKIIG. For CB, I'd look for the original.

By the way. The last time I drove cross country, while operating this radio on the 10 meter HAM band, which is right next to CB on the dial, I talked to Hawaii, Scotland, and all over the US. THe radio is amazing. Don't operate without a license on the HAM bands, or get a license ($6.20 for 10 years). A test is required. Books available at radio shack.

Last time I looked (at MY original IC-706) it takes an internal mod to enable out-of-band transmit. Can't just be 'programmed' for CB use, unless you just wanna listen - and it'll do that just fine, but kinda expensive.

Really not a good idea to use a modified Ham radio on CB...

My peaked and tuned Uniden 148 buries a 20w meter... I'm happy with it.

Nothing like a peaked and tuned radio.

i mounted a midland 79-290 in my console on my 02. Fits nice and looks a load better than having it velcroed to the dash.

If they find me... they have to catch me first!

I think they've got alot more important things to do anyway. Go after a guy with a 20+ watt CB or worry about a kid buying one of those Icom's and jamming out his neighbors junk. Besides, you need the power up where I am at. I'm close to getting a 109" whip instead of my firestik I have just so I get better reception. I get about a 1.4 SWR with the 3' antenna I have. My second whip is a scanner antenna and it'll be going to the bearcat I'm installing in the truck.

Has anyone mounted a small CB in the overhead? Or is it big enough?
