I had a similar experience, but used my handy Craftsman rubber band wrench that my wife got me for christmas. Sometimes she thinks she is doing a wonderful thing buying me tools as a gift. I don't discourage it cause any tool one day will have a function if only as a hammer or lever. These rubber band or strap wrenches have been in the top of my tool chest. I keep one in the 5th wheel and one in the garage. They take off anything large and round. They even work great on oil filters. When I did my first oil change, I did my fair share of cussing, but I got it off. I used to work with a mechanic who was kinda skinny, he had a monster set of channel locks that he used to get oil filters off.

If they are on that tight, drive a screwdriver through the thing and hog on it. Works everytime.

That would make almost as much of a mess as not removing the skid plate.

No doubt about it, but it does get a filter off that has been tightened by Joe "Fingers" Gorilla at the factory.

HDPOUL Is there a reason why you jack up your truck 3"? I have plenty of room underneath mine for the oil pan. Does jacking it up help it drain or something?

My dealer does the first change for free. So I let them take the factory filter off.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif Edited by: skibum
