: Air Horn installation
CAVelocity 11-15-2006, 03:25 PM Just wanted to show off my recent air horn installation and give some mounting ideas for anyone else considering doing this. It is a conductor's special kit from www.hornblasters.com (http://www.hornblasters.com). The kit comes with pretty much everything you need, but I added a few extras like a pet**** in the bottom of the tank and s/s tubing to the horns.
I was able to get everything to fit under the truck without losing the spare tire (the truck is lifted & has MBRP exhaust so there is a little bit more room under there). The horns are located under the cab on the driver side behind the transfer case.
The 3 gal. air tank and the VIAIR compressor are mounted to the bracket located above the driveshaft. There probably wouldn't be enough room there for either on a stock truck. In my case, there is plenty of clearance for both the driveshaft and the muffler.
I also added a 25' hose reel & pressure gage under the forward/right side of the bed that is accessible through the right-rear wheel-well.
the4wheeler 11-15-2006, 03:57 PM nice install! how do thay sound? enuff to wake up that A-hole in front of you who cut you off while talking on there cell phone?
gearhead 11-15-2006, 04:18 PM looks good, but I would put a rubber boot over the quick disconnect air fitting.
DJistheman 11-15-2006, 04:58 PM nicee, how do they sound, i want somthing really loud that doesnt sound like a sissy horn for my dmax
Tom S. 11-15-2006, 06:12 PM Very nice looking install. Now come up to Michigan and we'll fill 'em with snow and ice and see how they sound! ):h
CAVelocity 11-15-2006, 11:01 PM They certainly get the job done! Good idea about putting a cover on the air fitting, I think I have some vinyl plugs at work about the right size.
As far as going up to Michigan, you must be the only one up left up there, because all of the RV parks are full down here!
Clark20ry 11-15-2006, 11:30 PM well how about recording the sound and posting it? I really want to hear it.
HEAVYdutyDMAX 11-16-2006, 12:03 AM Thats real cool. I want some loud horns too.
EricJS 11-16-2006, 01:45 AM Our trucks should come stock with these!:D
KiltLifter 11-16-2006, 02:05 AM Nice!
Which kit did you buy?
On the fitting plug, Just get an extra male fitting, fill it with silicone and plug it in (when it's dry) to keep the crud out, that's if you can't find a plastic plug.
hemisareslow 11-16-2006, 04:29 AM THAT THIS IS PRETTY SLICK....WITH YOUR TANK AND COMPRESSOR HAVE YOU TRIED USING AN IMPACT WRENCH?

Yeah... pretty much. I have done my share of hardcore mudding & offroading. I finally sold my 87 wrangler on 39's w/ 350 chevy a few months ago. I got tired of turning wrenches everytime I played. This truck will mainly be used for dragging around boats.
I bought the "conductor's special" kit which is here: http://www.hornblasters.com/products/details.php?item=HB4H3G28

As far as running an impact wrench.... it will run it just fine for short periods (like putting on a wheel). Obviously the compressor is nowhere near enough to run one continuously, but the 3 gal. tank provides a decent amount of storage (enough for about a 10 second horn blast). The pressure switch comes set to turn on at 110psi and off at 150. It takes the pump about 3-4 minutes to fill up the 3 gal tank when completely empty.
HADAVETTE 11-16-2006, 12:40 PM I've been wanting that set up for a while now. Me and the wife were watching hornblasters videos last night :laugh_exp . You have to check their website out. Too funny. Lots of hate mail though.
GNBEAST 11-16-2006, 03:15 PM After looking at a few different options, I found that site too, and am very envious. I was thinking about a mounting point on top of the cab, for clearance purposes, with some type of enclosure. To anyone who hasn't heard them yet, you need to see some of their videos. Looks good! :ro)
txguppy 11-16-2006, 04:35 PM Specs on the Viair pump say minimum operating temperature is 40*. I guess they only work in the winter in the South.
chaseum 11-16-2006, 04:38 PM I would watch your gauge if you go off roading much. It looks like a rock would break it easily.

Minimum temp is -40*F. I don't think you'd have a problem in TX.
GMCJOE 11-18-2006, 04:31 PM Thats a frikken sweet air horn setup man!

Thanks! I know it's a lot of $$.... but it's worth every penny when you can blast away at some a-hole that really deserves it!!
FYI.... that is a el-cheapo pressure gage made of plastic. There is a valve up-stream of it and I threw it on there more to get an idea of where the pressure regulator comes on and off. If it gets broke I can turn off the valve and then re-think things before replacing it.
