I have a new GMC Crew Cab LLY all dolled up and the guy that does some custom truck work for me says to wait to install a MBRP Cool Dual exhaust, Edge w/Attitude and an intake kit. I only have 500 miles on it and he says to wait until it has 5k or 6k miles to make sure I don't have any problems with the engine/truck,etc. But listening to you guys talk about all the extra horses has my right foot twitching. I hear some of you installing this stuff as soon as you can get your hands on it and I don't hear about problems . So, what's the general consensus? "Wait and see" or "Just do it"?
By the way, I have been lurking here and have learned a lot. Thanks.

Bottom line is what do you want to do? If it was me, I would wait for a little while just to see. Your custom truck work buddy doesn't drive it, though. How long would it take you to put, say, 5,000 miles on it? Are we talking half a year or months, or a few weeks? That would play a big factor in my book. If after driving it around for a while, you are satisfied that there are no major problems with the truck. . . have a ball.

Good Luck,
Dennis

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm not sure that I know how safe these upgrades are. Most people on the board seem to be pretty comfortable with these mods but this is new territory for me and I'm looking for advise from some of you veterans. I'm 51 and I don't do much hot rodding anymore but I do appreciate a good running vehicle. I don't put many miles on this truck as it's my second vehicle and I mainly use it for recreational use on weekends and such. I restore and show JD tractors and will be using this rig to haul them to shows and such.

In my opinion...put about 2000 miles on her just to be sure you don't have any factory hang ups and then you should be good to go. As far as safe upgrades...depends on how you drive and take care of your truck. You know..brake stands at every stop light will put a hurtin on just about anything over time. As with any upgrade..gauges are a must...if you get the attitude monitior that takes care of that. Most people around here agree anything above juice level 3 will hurt a stock tranny..get a suncoast level 3 and you can pretty much add all the horses that are availble for the truck at this time. Welcome to the boards and let us know if we can help ya with anything else....oh yeah..enjoy that new beast!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Rock On.gif

fuel007one,
I live on the north side of town and I have got Chuck's Truck Accessories to do alot of my work. He is on my side of town in Goodlettsville. Hunter's, in downtown Nashville (over on Main St.), does alot of this type work too. Both of these places have been around awhile, do good work and prices are negotiable http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif . Tennessee Speed Sport sells alot of this stuff but they don't install and they have always been high on the items I checked on with them. There are some others around but these are the only ones I have had dealings with.
Yesterday I had a BW hitch, bed liner, rails, wheel well trim, billet grill and ass't goodies put on by Chuck's.
Next I plan on an Edge W/Attitude & MBRP cool Dual exhaust. But I think I'll wait a couple thousand miles and make sure everything is OK before going to "Phase 2".

What are you waiting for? Install it and enjoy. Regardless of mileage, if you have to take it in for warranty work you should remove the Edge and perhaps even the cold air kit depending on the issue at hand and reinstall the cat if removed. Remember, out of sight out of mind when it comes to modules, cats, intakes,(especially the oily style)with regards to warranty. You have already waited longer than some.

scotd1,

My truck gets used much the same way as you use yours. I'm about the same age as you, and I had the same worries about messing with a nice truck. Even though I have a strong mechanical background, it does not include diesel engines.

That said...

My truck had 1100 miles on it when the the Edge Beta went on it. Few hiccups from the Edge along the way, but that's to be expected with Beta software, otherwise no problems with the truck. The production release of the Juice is really great. No regrets here...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif

Just do it. Remember this "If it wasn't meant to run, it wouldn't start!!"
