: Question about cranking the stock torsion bars with H2 take offs

I know a lot of you are tired of hearing of this subject, so I'll appollogise to you now. I have read many of the post here about installing the H2 take off's and cranking the bars. It seems like almost everyone at one point has switch to the green keys. I figured I would save a step and just install the green keys with out pissing with the stock ones, but here is where I got confused. I cranked my stock t-bars and was able to get about 3 1/4 inches of lift out of them. I cranked them back down to about 2 1/4. I have spaced the stock shocks about a inch to give me a little bit of lost travel back. I stuck the H2 take offs on (315/70/17) and took it for a real quick loop around the neighborhood. It seems to ride pretty close to the stock ride. No rubbing except the front air damn. I will be trimming it. I want to take a longer ride before I pass judgement or trim the fender. So here is my questions.

Should I change out the stock keys, and put the green keys in?

Has anyone else been able to run the stock keys and get that much lift out of them?

Did the spacer in the stock shocks make a differance.

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

I have the H2 315's.

Did NOT change to the green keys.

Did get almost 2" of lift by cranking the stock keys 8 turns.

Did NOT add spacers to the stock shocks. Seemed better to install Rancho 9000 shocks. Better ride, adjustable, and longer than stock so they ride in mid travel.

I AM happy with the way it rides now.

My 305's rubbed slightly on dips and turns. I figure 315's would be worse.

I have 12K on stock keys. I cranked almost 2" and had lots of threads left so I suspect I could get to 3". I think the amount of lift with the stock keys is an individual truck by truck thing.

I did not do anything with my shocks, still stock with 13K+ and they ride great in GA where the roads are smooth. I made a trip to PA and got a real shock how poorly it rides in the pot hole capital of the world. I'm staying out of there. Back here in GA it still rides fine.

My 315's only rub very slightly and only when backing up over a Miami style curb with my boat trailer. Otherwise its fine. I did trim the air dam and tap the lower inner fender fastener rearward a bit to make a bit more room for the husky splashguards (which I trimmed red arrow). I didn't trim the fender or inner fender, I just tapped where the fastener is rearward (blue arrow) about 3/8" with a rubber mallet.

Driving on rougher terrain will cause rubbing--it happened to me with 285s on 8" wheels with 4.375" backspacing, pulled back fender liners and pulled back parking brake cable, and an aftermarket bumper. If I was only driving on the street and was careful it wasn't a problem. However, there was no way I could run chains on the front.

Part of my truck's job is hunting, and those roads and the rough terrain around them will casue excessive rubbing with only a t-bar lift. I personally think any rubbing is unaccceptable, but that is just me. My 4" Rancho kit solves all rubbing isses with my 295s, and I am confident I could go to 315s as well.

Try a plow http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Shocked.gif

Actually mine only rubbed on a curb or speed bumps with the plow on. I was surprised. That was 305s.

Lowered 1.5" from stock. No rubbing except full lock off-road hitting a bump. Large amounts of trimming are all you need, with a little rust proofing afterward.
