I just got my ARE Z Series Cap installed on my 04 Chevy 3500 D/A CC 4x4 LB SRW - didn't notice until i got home and looked at the cap in the sunlight, it seems it's a different color than the truck, the cap almost has a gold tint to it. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

There are 4 different colors for the ARE toppers and the place I wanted to buy it from wanted to take my gas cap cover and send it to the factory to match the paint. I told them to eat it and just got the one I was getting. It's slightly off but only if you are looking for it, so it's not a big deal.
You could send it back w/ the gas cover and tell them to match it and they theoretically should do it, but then you run around looking like a redneck with a junker truck sans gas cap till you get it back.

I am very happy with my ARE Z but it is black and it matches perfectly. The only problem I have had with mine is I got it in Feb. 04 and after a few days of the cold and snow, the one ARE emblem on the drivers side I guess shrunk and popped off and took the paint with it. Real pain to get it touched up by a friend and to avoid it happening again, took the other ARE emblems off! Just from the picture, I does look noticable. Guess you could get a billet fuel door and send your factory one back with the cap!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Took the truck back to installer and had them remove the topper, they are sending back to ARE with the gas lid this time to ensure a better paint match. Another 2-3 week wait.

I took off the ARE stickers and put my Banks stickers there... Bit more unobtrusive and it looks like it came that way.... I like ambushing.

Have one on my truck. ARE tried four times to get it ....never did!! Gas lid and the whole deal...nope! They washed their hands of it even with their own dealer!
Even the dealer agreed that it was'nt close enough. Dealer had it painted locally( at his expense with an ARE price concession because the mfg. gave up) and its as close as it can be....Pewter evidently has many iterations....I've seen a number of them on the road with varying "matches" I guess it comes down to what you'll settle for...just like when you go in for "warranty" work.If they can wear you out (the mfg.) they will. Dealer went the extra mile with me because I was a good customer on a number of vehicles
The biggest area of match problems is on the bottom angled area as it dies into the pickup box. Light hits it differently and makes it appear to be different shades.

Well - this is the third time the cap has gone back for a color match, once again with the gas lid - hopefully should be back by Tuesday. Purchased the cap on the 6th of July - and here it is September, and the cap hasn't been on the truck for more than a week. The second time it went back, ARE lost the cap for two weeks, and right before they were going to build a new one, they found it. I have had ARE products on my othe two trucks and have never had a problem. My last truck was an 02 Pewter GMC and they matched the color perfectly.
