: FASS problems
joemaudlin 11-13-2006, 09:19 PM first problem I had with the fass system was the "T" the hooks into the fuel fill and lets the unused fuel recirculate back into the take had a bad weld that didn't completely go all the was around the small 1/2" metal pipe. This left a tiny hole that let fuel leak out and onto the ground.
Next problem and even worse is when I shut the truck off after about 2 or 3 seconds I hear what sounds like a air leak and then I notice diesel fuel leaking onto the ground. checked it out and the fass fuel pump is mounted horizontally and on the lower side of the actual fuel pump there is a small hole that lets off air pressure and diesel fuel whenever I shut the truck off. Does anyone know what is wrong, pump is brand new and just installed it. I left a voicemail with DPP and am waiting to here what they have to say about my two problems.
Diesel-Dan 11-17-2006, 04:19 PM RP left yesterday with a hat........
The weld thing is VERY rare for us....we pressure test these units and have had a few slip past in the past......for that we are sorry you got one....but a simple tack usally fixes the issue......
titanspanker01 11-17-2006, 07:32 PM i can only fill my truck with the handle on one click, it wont fill very fast. and i guess the not starting when the gauge is at 1/4 is normal for a 90 and the 150's are worse.
joemaudlin 11-17-2006, 09:48 PM I just refueled for the first time since i added the FASS and it was painful how long it took, I couldn't even get mine to fuel on the first click, I had to hold the handle the whole time
hey dan, I sure could use some help on the labor related to this problem.
turbo lcc 11-17-2006, 09:56 PM I have had a FASS on my truck for about a year. I have the 95gph pump I don't have the 1/4 tank issue or slow filling. I what pumps are you guys running?
If you have a fass with filters you have to shut the truck off when filling or mount a switch to kill the pump.No problems here with there pumps .NLDP
Trippin 11-17-2006, 11:07 PM I've had the Fass for over two years and I never have a problem filling up.
I never understood the whole leave it runing while filling up thing anyway.
DMax_Doug 11-17-2006, 11:16 PM I've had mine over two years also. No problem filling up, but I don't have the truck running. As for running out of fuel at 1/4 tank, yes I have this problem but I installed a switch to turn the FASS off so I could use the last 1/4 tank.

They fixed this issue about 2 years ago. I leave my truck run while filling up all the time.
Trippin.. - cuz I like a warm truck in the winter :)

What's winter?
Is that when the days peak outside air temp goes from 95 degrees down to 65 degrees?
I was wondering what they called that. :D

Never heard of this issue with the return...make sure the return manifold is installed correctly. The way the fuel enters the RM is directional. You want the fuel to be pointed towards the tank....not the fuel cap. This might cause turbulence where the fuel shut off on the pump is not working correctly. Another suggestion.....try another pump.
As for the labor.....we only cover the wnty on the pump. We do not cover the labor it takes to install. It takes about 15 mins to install. If they charged you more than that....you might want to talk to the shop that did the work.
joemaudlin 11-20-2006, 08:09 PM hey dan it doesn't matter if it takes 15 minutes or 1 minute, if you're physically handicapped, like only one hand or arm, I believe you need to help out on the labor, I already had to pay extra labor because you guys shipped out a defective return "T" but it only makes your product look worse when there's also a defective pump. I can only hope that once I get the new pump and have to pay more labor, because I can't do it myself, I hope it last the four years the warranty says it will, not 4 minutes like the first one that was sent to me.
NOT TO MENTION THAT YOU SAID YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP ME OUT ON THE LABOR WHEN I TALKED TO YOU ON THE PHONE!

Joe,
With all due respect, we do not pay for labor in any situation. Our wnty will only cover repair or replacement of the pump. This is our policy. Handicap or not, everyone is treated this same. I took your phone call, even though I was not required to. We run all wnty work though our dealers and felt that I could help you out due to your situation with your selling dealer (which was not an direct dealer with us). I put you in touch with another dealer that could better give you help where you were not getting any to begin with. I would also appreciate you keep our details of our phone conversation private. These points are moot and hold no weight. I would have not told you I would cover any install labor under any circumstances because I could never get it approved. Period. I feel, on this issue, we will have to agree to disagree. I have done the best I can to help you in a timely manor. This is why we suggest a FASS Recommended dealer install the unit to help with any issues that might pop up. In doing business with us, they are required to help troubleshoot and offer any assistance in getting a FASS repaired and diagnosed.

YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO HELP ME OUT ON THE LABOR
if it's your policy to not help out on labor in any situation then you shouldn't make any exceptions, even for myself, but don't tell me on the phone that you might be able to. That was a flat out lie and it's very unprofessional.

Joe,
Above was the first time I ever heard anything mentioned about labor. (I gave you a hat as per request....this never happens for anyone) If I led you to believe otherwise, I apologize. This subject is very sensitive with Brad, and I know there would be no chance at all to get reimbursement. But this is turning into a “I said, You Said” conversation. Everything is unsubstantiated from this point on and I choose not to go any further with this. If you have any further questions, please direct them to Keith @ MCS.
