just curious, i already got pricing from Eric on this, but he made a good point, shipping on trans. fluid is going to be pricey when you consider how much fluids weigh. SOoooooooooo, i called my local NAPA dealer and they have "NAPA" brand full syn trans. fluid (Moton5?), at $5/quart. I know its not "transynd", but, would this stuff be any good??

Also, the rear end synthetic fluid they sell is "Stay Lube", @33.99/2 quart bottle. is this stuff worth it as well?

Why dont they sell AC/Delco products?? I thought NAPA was "genuine parts". The oil filters they sell are WIX, these just arent as good are they?

Sorry for the "idiotic" questions, but im new to diesels, and just trying to make sure i keep my truck in good working order. I tow an almost 14K 5th wheel behind me at least 2 times a month (about 1000 miles each month) and want to make sure i dont harm anything in the drivetrain.Edited by: TClark

Just go down to your local parts store and get some Mobile 1 ATF and diff fluid and I doubt you will have any problems and it should be cheaper than NAPA. I hear NAPA's oils are Valvoline products.

I am an Amsoil dealer and am down the road about 40 miles in Griffin, GA.

I keep Amsoil synthetic diesel oil, ATF, and gear lube in stock. If you are interested, PM me and I'll fill in details.

WIX makes some of the best filters and NAPA sells thier house brand of filters thats a rebadged wix.

If you run Amsoil I would not run the rugular dex approved ATF!!! Make sure its thier transyd replacement fluid stuff.

I personally would go to the local allison dealer and buy a pail of trasyd stuff or run mobil 1. I bought about 120$ worth of mobil 1 this week, had to clear out a couple part stores

Rat Lover, I don't want to start a flame war with you or anyone else, but you obviously don't know as much about Amsoil products as you think you know.

As a dealer, I get a monthly magazine strictly sent to dealers that always has several tech articles on lubrication related issues. When Amsoil came out with their trans syn replacement, they advertised it as a lower cost equivalent to trans syn. They did state that for users of Allison trans under extended warranty that called for trans syn use that this was akin to a contract and that gen trans syn should be used until the extended warranty was expired.

Another tech article couple of months later discussed the light duty GM trucks that are OKed by GM to use DexIII. It stated that for this use they still reccomend Amsoil Universal ATF over the trans syn substitute. They unequivecally state that that this trans syn substitute is for use in other Allison applications, and to use the Univ. ATF in light duty applications where the vehicle manufacturer specifies anything other than trans syn. Amsoil Synthetic Universal ATF is recommended by Amsoil for use in applications for DexII&II, Ford, Mercon, Mercon V, Chrysler ATF+ thru ATF+4, Allison C3 & C4, Caterpillar TO2 & TO3, Voith Commercial, Opel & GM Strasbourg, and Honda.

Since Amsoil makes and sells both, it makes sense to use what they recommend to use if using their product.

I dont want to start anything either. I also dont care what amsoil said, I considered thier stuff but others HAVE had problems with amsoil universal ATF slipping thier tranys. No slippage when they had regular dino dex in there and it when away after they switched to something else. So I decided against it. I believe they made 2 fluids....thier universal fluid and thier stuff formulated for the alli as a transyd replacemnt. This stuff was supposed to work better in the alli than the universal stuff acording to some amsoil people I have talked to, dont know how it works though, no experience. Thats why I recomended that if he wants amsoil to go with the transyd replacemnt not the universal stuff, sorry if i wasnt clear. Like I said I dont have any experience with it, it may be thier universal with a different lable? But it was supposedly made to work in the alli. These people that had the slippage problem with the universal amsoil stuff and nothing else were also running added power though.

Edit:I believe the guys I mentioned went to transynd IIRC or mobil one. The big HP guys arnt having problems with mobil 1, not saying its better or worse than anything else but it has been proven, the universal amsoil has had a few cases of there being slippage present when it wasnt before or after, take that with a grain of salt, maybe it was the problem maybe it wasnt? Sure sounds like it to me though. I wouldnt risk it though......JMOEdited by: ratlover
