I have a edge chip with the old 2004 Duramax motor. Everything is stock except for the chip and 285/75/16's. What settings are safe (EGT and Transmission wise) for towing 6000-7000LBS. I have not yet installed the EGT probe.

Level 2
Level 2 should be the same weather or not your attitude is connected. I did drive mine w/out the EGT probe for about a week and had no issues or problems.

Well if at all in doubt, just run it stock.
I've towed ~8,000lbs with my '04 LLY and actually got ~1mpg better while towing in Level-2 over Level-1, and ~2mpg better while towing over stock.
Going through Indiana, I averaged 14.5mpg (calculated by hand) doing 65mph pulling 8k.
No issues with high EGT. I kept the attitude display set to display slip and backdown... and neither one ever budged off of 0%.Edited by: OmniGLH

Thanks for the replies. It sounds like its pretty safe to tow in level 2.
Jim,
I presume that the 14.5MPG was on relatively flat land? My other question is whether or not anyone has seen high EGT's towing in level 2 on hilly terrain. I live in Nor Cal and we have lots of hilly and mountainous terrain.

Steve,
My documentation from Edge says for towing w/Attitude it sould be on level 1 or 2. This applies for both LLY and LB7 (I have the 04 LB7)
Good Luck with it!

SteveCa,
The only time I've experienced high egt's is in a low boost heavy throttle position.
IE:Not forcing a 5th to 4th downshift when losing speed up a 6 to 7% grade. If y ou keep feeding it fuel egt's will climb but as soon as you downshift the boost comes up and your temps drop. It's very easy to control with the throttle and doesn't slow me down.I always tow in level 2 and my camper and bass boat are a decent load.
Hope that helps!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Yes, that was on VERY flat land, going through Indiana on my way to the southern border of Virginia. That's the best tow mileage I've seen yet. Once I got into the mountains, mileage dropped to 12.4mpg. EGTs stayed just under 1200 at their hottest point.

Depends on conditions, but a 90HP Juice will not cross 1400°, and IIRC barely crosses 1350° on a 12 second dyno run with a 15-20 second hold at startup. I believe the EGT's peak in the middle of the run also.
