I see alot of guys on here running a PPE boost valve. I dont know any other brands but I was wondering what this can do for me and how it works and how hard it is to install? Thanks, Richard:drinking:

It's a very simple install...Less than 10 minutes...It will give you about a 5-8 PSI boost increase depending on what kind of tuner/programmer you use...The PPE is an inexpensive, simple way to increase your boost...

What if I dont have a programmer on it. Just exhaust and k & n!

Not too sure you'll see any gain without putting more fuel to it...

Not sure if the stock programing would benifit by it. If you did gain any boost you would run the chance of setting off an overboost code anyway.

another boost valve you can check out is one made by Kennedy diesel. it is fully adjustiable and that is what i run. i think if you put one on your truck and didnt have a chip only gain you would notice is faster turbo spool and mabye you will be a little quicker.

I have wondered that too. From what I can see of how they are made, I think they restrict the wastegate causing higher boost pressure. Is that right? If not ,how does it cause more boost?

correct, the kd boost valve has an adjustiable outter housing. when you tighten it, the legnth gets smaller. insider there is a spring that compresses a steel ball up against the inlet side of the valve. for more boost you twist the housing down amaking it harder for the ball to become lifted off of the inlet thus making the wastegate thinking its not making enough boost. the wastegate compensates and makes more boost. i hope i described it correctly!

I noticed a difference w/my boost vavle, running just stock. It pulls harder, and will get up to speed faster, There is a big difference w/programmers/chips.

Do you need to have a boost gauge before you install one of these or is it safe enough to run with out the gauge, still new to the diesel thing, thanks for the help.

You should, but dont have to, if your running a chip/programmer, its ganna raise your boost levels up to 30-32 psi.

Its more money but you can also get a banks big head waste gate. i have one and haven't any problems with it. There is a thread in the DIY(do it yourself) section that explains how to adjust the boost. I'll try to find it and post a link. I haven't used a boost valve but i've heard from a few people that have switched to the big head that the big head holds the boost longer and performs even better.
