Should I stay with my 03 LB7 or should I get a 2004 LLY?

I can't make up my mind. The cost is pretty reasonable to trade up so that is not the concern.

I have around 30,000 miles on my 03. The last 15,000 have been running the Hot juice/attitude. Needless to say my transmission is going to need some work if I keep it.

So is the LLY an upgrade or a downgrade?

If I get this LLY I am going to put a shift kit in it right way and possibly a torque converter too.

Any experiences from those who have gone from an LB7 to an LLY?

I would like a sunroof but I would have to wait untill spring to get an 05 with a sunroof.Edited by: Max Power

I say give the lilly a bit and see what has more power potential. I think the jury is still out if the new turbo will be a help or a hindrance? Or has that been settled? If you go Chevy you would be definatly upgrading in the style dept though so i guess thats a plushttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Tongue.gif

I think your old pal Hoot wants you to buy a Dodge so he isn't the only brand switcher.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Go for it. Trading frequently if the the price difference is good, is the only way to go.

You're going to have to bite the bullet someday anyway, so why not now. I'd even think about a Chev now that the angry Chinaman is sort of gone. As for problems, the new sunroof could be a bigger one than the LLY might be...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

Sucks to get all that emission equipment though... if you go to the LLY. I purposely bought an '03 late year because I did not like all the emissions equipment. If you are going to keep the truck a while that EGR will start to slow the motor down with time. My 6.5TD had that trouble and I want to stay away from emissions equipment as long as I can.

The difference per month is almost nothing. We didn't have 0% financing in canada when I bought my truck so I am financed at 6% through the bank. Now I can get 0.9% for 5 years or 0% for 4 years.Edited by: Max Power

I don't want anybody to buy a Dodge and themn blame it on me http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Even if I was the only brand switcher...

I say if you unload them at 30,000 miles it really doesn't matter what you buy as long as you get decent trade or resale.

MAX you should go Ford. Hoot went dodge, you should go FORD. It is always nice to here about the other manufactures from a former GM owner.

PS, it's not what you buy it's what you build.

The LLY is a promising engine, but with less than 1 year in production, no one really knows if it is going to have any problems. You need to wait and see if the new style injectors and the VVT have any problems.

I think you should keep your LB7 until you have 60k to 90k miles (how many Canadian kilometers?). At that mileage, you should know more about the history of LLY, then you make your decision...http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Geek.gif

I say stay with the LB7; dealer talked me into the LB7 with a bunch of additional rebates instead of the LLY and I'm glad he did; have a friend who bought a LLY after driving my LB7 but could no longer get one; he thinks that the LB7 is better, has less emissions stuff, etc., and the tune stuff has all the bugs worked out. You have already got all of the extra goodies, enjoy them a while longer! (Good grief, I'm starting to sound like my wife, keep it awhile and enjoy it).

Well Tony, there is only one way to go. Get the LLY now!! Since you're getting married soon you probably won't get a chance to do it later cause you'll be busy doing lots of "other" stuff. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif

Keep your LB7 and wait awhile to see what transpires with the LLY and any teething problems it might have.

You'll have the same problem with the next one if you Juice it and use it so upgrade and keep.

Maybe it'll be something simple and you can trade it or ?

Hope its not terminal.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cry.gif

Good point but it looks like you've no choice unless the dealer bud of yours puts it back to stock and you peddle it.

I vote to keep the LB7...that is unless you want to start your truck payments all over again. I have 10 payments left on my 03 and have no intention of trading even though it would make a hell of a down payment on a new one. Looking forward to finally getting a break from truck payments for a while and actually owning one outright. But that is just me. Good luck whatever you choose.

Keep the hobby going or get a new hobby. You'll be in the same boat no matter what you do. We know you well. You'll get the new tranny and not have any more upgrades.... or you'll get the "new" LLY and have more stuff to help us with.

I'm on the fence with this as well. I like my IHI turbo but the injection setup could be better, like the LLY. I do enjoy the emmission (egr) free truck. On the flip side, I really like the injector placement on the LLY and the turbo isn't bad...just isn't proven with this design. The LLY turbo has the ability to push more lbs, it's the parts that turn me off. Although the guts only cost about 250 bucks, labor is the factor.

Don't worry about the future "trucks" just look at the 03' and 04' and decide which one you could live with if you had too. In the long run what would make the better truck.

............. I acutally looked at a (shuuush) dodge...er I mean a Cummins. The dang thing had OEM GPS!

There won't be a goat in my future.

As far as the turbo goes, there is always NOS. Pretty much the only option for LB7's anways. for now....

Do you think there will be an EGR work around in the near future? You'd think so.....
