Who has put an overhead DVD player/screen in their truck and how hard is it? I'm a bit leary of cutting the roof liner. I'm looking at a self contained unit with integral player so I don't have to wire the player under a seat.

Jeli,

Any thought to putting something like this in?

They look pretty nice to me, but are a little pricey. I got the factory DVD unit and it is great, but I didn't have to worry about wiring it up or anything.

Good Luck,
Dennis

Those Vizualogics are what I will probably end up doing. They have a new one out now that each headrest has its own DVD player behind the monitor for each head rest so they can change out their own DVD's without crawling under the rear seat.

Kicking myself for not getting the factory one when I ordered it! Too much stuff to change out to install a factory one at a later date. Much easier to do the headrests!

I elected to skip the stock unit in favor of purchasing a portable DVD player. They now have players with 10" screens at Costco for $399. With the power outlet at the back of the center console, two kids in the back seat can see it fine. We just did a road trip, had a player with an 8" screen and the kids set it on the center console. It worked great.

Just a thought. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif

for the $1300 OEM system, you can buy a laptop or a portable DVD system. much better systems out there for the money

I had my DVD player installed in the console, fits perfectly, and then put the flip down 7in monitor in the headliner. I was going to go with the 2 headrest monitors but my 5 yr old has a tendency to put his feet on the seats when we travel. I had a local stereo shop do all the work for me for $850.00 out the door, including a power invertor, and av switch for a Playstation2. Here are some pics of my setup.DVD SETUP (http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/rtf622/album?.dir=/e3b7&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/rtf622/my_photos)

I have a portable 7" that works fine but kid #4 is due in Sept so the console will need to be flipped up. I wanted a ZF so the factory DVD at $1300 is a good deal until you add the Allison and buckets making a factory dvd cost almost $4K. The headrest ones are a bit pricey for me and they seem way to close for viewing comfort. I sat in a conversion truck with them and wasn't impressed.

Duramaxdad,

How does the overhead 7" look from the back seat? Is it big enough to see? What manufacture/model did you choose?

Chris, Iam not sure of the brand name for the monitor, all it says on it, is "platinum". It looks great from the back seat. I was, at first concerned with anyone sitting on the side not being able to see it, because it doesnt swivel from side to side, but it hasnt been an issue. Infact the monitor is easy to see, even when you are in a car behind me. You wont be dissapointed with what ever you chose, it is worth its weight in gold to not hear those famous words "are we there yet?"...lol Good luck chosing.Edited by: Duramaxdad
